Ship Design-future add on

One of the captivating things about this game is the ship design feature. I spend a lot of time designing in each game.

Since the designs are saved in a document file for future games, I would like to see a Ship design editor similar to the faction editor that was added to the SMAC series. I would spend hours playing with faction design and I am sure I would do the same with ship design.

Not a big deal, just a thought for the future. I can put the ships together as I play but in trying to hurry to get back to the game I have made some mistakes and some sloppy designs.

Yea a seprate ship editor program would be a cool thing to have. Also I'm wondering if people are going to be able to import thier own models that can be used as ship parts. Like different nose cones, and wings.

I feel like I'm playing with my old Legos when I use the ship builder.

God those were the days as a kid. I used to play with them non-stop.

In a prior set of postings, Stardock indicated that all 3d models in the game, as well as all graphics and text, are in common file types. As such, it should be possible to import custom ship models.

Yup, you will be able to create your own 3D models for ship and ship parts then import them for use in the game.

We also want to make it eventually so that you can export your ship designs to use elsewhere.

So people who are fans of various sci-fi shows could build their own ships in GalCiv and then export them for use for their fan sites or personal use or whatever.  The ship design stuff is being made so that you should be eventually able to create pretty much anything.

We could use more game development companies like Stardock out *there*

(That said with the knowledge that stating you're a *purely* game development company would result in swift shot in the foot).

Was a COPY button added to the ship design as I suggested in a previous post Link, so that you can create new designs by copying and modifying designs?
