a confusing pop-up needs info

The symptom
pop-up message declares:
"We can't travel that far. Our range doesn't extend far enough from a friendly planet or starbase to reach that destination."

The problem
What ship does this refer to?

Possible solutions
  • Include the ship's name in the text of the message
  • Give the message box a title that says something like "From Scout-143"
  • Add a "Go to ship" button to the message box that closes the box and focuses on the ship with bad orders.

Huh? The message always refers to the ship actually selected, doesn't it?

The message came up at the beginning of a turn, and I had about a dozen vessels scattered across a huge map. Maybe the ship in question has become selected as the active ship--how would I know? And more importantly, where is it?

Ah, now I see. I only had the message when I was actively trying to send a ship further than possible, in this case it was quite obvious.

On further investigation, it seems that this message was originating from a freshly created ship. One of my shipyards had orders to send all ships to a waypoint, but the new ship did not have the range to reach that waypoint.
