Silent Surrenders?

Why do I own Toria all of a sudden?

This issue has shown up before, the one where another Race surrenders to you, with no message, and without much relations with that civ. Shouldn't there at least be some sort of notice?

I had the same thing happen with the Iconians. Bam, they're mine early in the game with no notice and no threat by me.

It was the first time I have ever had a major surrender to me in I or II.

Well, it is the same thing if the AI surrender to another AI: you aren't warned.

Perhaps in GCII but in GCI you weren't warned but ut was announced

I've had this happen as well. The problem, Phoenix, is that you get new planets to supervise, but no notice. When a AI surrenders to another AI, you should be told as well. This case, howver, is more problematic: "Leto I builds 0 Freighter Foo? Where'd that come from?"

Well, I think it was already listed as bug. But I may be wrong

I know, I have got planets from a surrendering in a previous game. Only carefully monitoring the influence on the minimap can help to detect this kind of behavior. But it is really annoying when that does happen on a reload.

yes i was trying to establish trade with the dregin when all of a sudden the boundries went green. took me a sec to realize they had surrendered to the torian. its also annoying when theres a sudden change in your economy with no reason unless you zoom out on the mini map enough to notice several new planets you have. (problem is dieing planets from dead empires usually dont help your economy)

would be really nice if you could choose to accept the planets or not caseu if the computer is trying to give me 5 level 3 or 2 planets in the middle of enemy territory i dont want them in any way shape or form they just suck in money in upkeep and in a couple of turns they are taken by the computer anyways

Why not destroy the colony then? The AI will have to send colony ship first and buid colony from the ground

Better yet, give them to a weak race in exchange for something you want, or give them to someone you hate, so that when the planets are taken a new war will start.

But, this is probably all irrelevant now; I think the latest patch (non public) fixed it. One bullet point said "fixed an error where the human empire is used instead of the correct AI empire" or something like that; I believe this is a symptom of that bug. The announcement is made, maybe there is even a negotiation, but control is erroneously assigned to the human player.

And here I was assuming an alien race had surrendered themselves to me as a means of thumbing their collective noses at whoever else was trying to obliterate them.

It'd be nice if they warned - or at least asked - before it happened.

I'm also mildly annoyed when planets rebel and join my side without asking. Who are they to assume I want a boatload of undeveloped lands dropped in my lap? I'm gonna just start giving them back to whoever lost them instead of trying to overhaul the AI's poor planet planning. Maybe trade them for something useful like lift kit and spoiler for my new Corvette class flagship.

They have to me, unfortunately I was technologically ahead of the race that was about to lay the smack down on them and yes at war with that race also... free tech for the invading race I would imagine as they invaded that turn anyways

I just played a game last night where one major race surrendered to me with no warning, but two others surrendered to me and I got the End of Turn/Beginning Turn Resolution notice that they'd surrendered to me. Very odd.

I'm not sure what the bug is that has it skipping the announcement, since you can get the announcement. Maybe it is an errant Player reference in the code... or maybe it's just a missed event flag for the EoT/Resolution notice. Don't have access to the code, so any guess is as good as another.

Hi gang - We've noted this bug in our log. Thanks for the heads up.
