A Few Questions / Points of Criticism

I've been following the development of the GalCiv II for quite awhile now. I'm a big fan of GalCiv I and its expansion. I love this game! I think it's the best thing to hit 4x strategy since game series like Civilization and Master of Orion. There are just a few questions / points of criticism I have - maybe you can clear it up for me.

First, the planet names seem weird to me - not so much the names but different planet names than wha tthe stars are called.

Second - and you may have already - stated this when you answered my first question - can a player rename planets and stars?

Third, in battle images, it looks as though beam weapons are penetraiting through sheilds. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but are shields supposed to... um... shield? Unless they're out, the weapon shouldn't be hitting the ship.

Hi!

1) Planets only have different names if they belong to a particular race.  I.e. Earth isn't called Sol 3.  Altaria's sister planet isn't called Atarlia IV but instead Wisp.

2) Everything can be renamed.  See the little document icon by the labels in the context menu.

3) Shields diminish the effect of beam weapons, they don't completely stop them.

4) The starbases are going to be fewer in # we hope but much more powerful.

One of the big mistakes we made in GalCiv I IMO is that many of the starter modules on a starbase were pretty powerful so players could perfectly justify to simply create a bunch of different star bases.

This time, the starter modules are going to be very weak and only once they've worked up is the really good stuff there.

Moreover, there's goign to be a lot mroe tools to decrease micro management of starbases and constructors than there were in the first one.  Those should be in by beta 5 (December build).

Ah but in the Korx start system, there's Korx II through IV, in orbit of Oxor!

So when you say that they only have different names when they belong to a race, you mean only their starting solar systems? In other words, the terrans start with Sol (which has Earth, Mars, Jupitor, and so on) but once they colonize another star system - say Regula - it will be Regula I, Regula II, Regula III and so on?

I see planets can get renamed but not stars . That little document icon isn't there when the object is a star.

Also I love renaming Starbases. I cannot remember difference between starbase 54 and 107 they're just numbers. If I change it to Home - Econ or something I know what it is and what I want to use it for. Or Forward Attack Base. etc.
Good idea that!

Omega 607, correct, it's only the starting worlds that aren't like that by default.

BTW, Shogun, thanks for that tip. I place named Rally points on starbases when they're founded, but for some reason, I never thought of renaming the starbase itself. I now also rename planets that have major bonuses/penalties due to colonization events. Trying to remember which planet has a +50% to starship quality is a pain

Oh no! You can't rename star systems? I love doing that!

I think that was just an oversight. It will probably get implemented later.
