Start system randomization

Why do the Terrans always start in an approximation of the Sol system? One of the things I liked about GC1 was the random viability of the starting world.

All races now have set starting systems, started with beta 4a.

Sounds just like Birth of the Federation. All five major races (Cardassians, Feds, Ferengi, Klingons, and Romualans) start with the same home system every game. I don't really have a problem with it; I even view it as an advantage of sorts. If your starting system is the same every game, you pretty much know what to put in build queue for the first 10-20 turns, which frees you to pay more attention to everything else. (And the less time I have to spend mircomanaging my planets' build queues, the better!)

Also, there is no worry that your class 16 planet is outdone by your opponents class 24, simply because the starting systems were random.

I acknowledge the reasons behind the decision but I wouldn't mind seeing a "randomize all start locations" option.

Huh? So you're saying that right now your home system (along with everyone else's) is at the same place on the map in every single game?

No. What I'm saying that the the home system has the exact same mix of planets at the exact same planet quality in each game. Making your home system work with a random start was a good part of the challenge in GC1.

Yep, Custom race always starts with a class 15 planet and another class 4 planet in the home system. I also would like to see an option to randomize this as it makes the start of the game a bit repetitious.

Why would you get at disadvantage with others races sicne every race starts with a class 15 and a class 4 planet?
