It's not corrupt.  There were some server connection problems earlier this evening due to an unrelated ISP issue.

As noted in a similar thread, you are charged when the next phase of the beta becomes available (namely, today). Meaning once you've paid, you get access to the game from beta to final and beyond. If you don't want to pay early, then you don't get access to the beta. Just order the game when it is released in that case.

IMO it would be foolhardy to not charge because then people could just preorder to get access to the final pre-release beta, then cancel the order after they have it and they'd have gotten 80% of the final game for free.

Besides, a preordeer by definition means you pay some or all of the cost in advance. If you don't want to pay in advance, then just wait and buy it when it comes out.

Now if they had stated when ordering that there would be a charge when the beta phase started then that would have been fine as i would have known about it..

the hole point of a beta test is to test a game to make sure it works.. they may as well release it if they r gonna charge for an unfinished game..

i guess im just a bit pissed that they did not say anything about this when ordering..

ah well..

just tell me one thing..
is it better than the first one

Well, I'm a bit biased, since I'm one of the developers (for both GC1 and GC2), but I say yes. Here are some of the reasons why:

1) The 3D engine makes a huge difference.  Zooming in and out of the map, multiple resolution support (with more viewable area on the starmap for higher resolutions), and being able to change the angle.

2) Ship design, which would have been very cheesy and probably looked terrible on a 2D engine, works great with the 3D engine.  It's very cool to build your own ship as if you were using Legos.

3) Fleet combat.  In GalCiv1, fleets were more or less just a way to control a group of ships.  It didn't give you any kind of tactical advantage in battles.  In GalCiv2, a fleet of ships definitely has an advantage over a single ship, because each of the ships in the fleet fires before the other ship does.  And the fleet combat window is really cool.

4) You can play as any of the major races, or create your own custom race.
