Beta 4 tomorrow

Beta 4 tomorrow

...So close...

Tomorrow beta 4 will be released to the Galactic Civilizations II beta team.  Users who have pre-ordered the game will be able to download the game from Stardock Central.

This will be the first build in which the basic game mechanics of the game will be somewhat implemented (i.e. the first beta that actually includes real game play as opposed to engine testing).

We are particularly looking for players who have Windows 98, ME, and 2000 to give feedback so that we know how well we're performing on those systems (we have machines in our lab but real world users are always preferred).

This version will also have the ship textures in.  We're still holding out on a lot of graphics and multimedia (and the campaign of course) so that the final game has plenty new in it.  Like last time, Stardock will be making a BonusPak that will be available on ship day that will include some extra goodies and a few new features as a way of thanking users for purchasing the game.

There will be two additional beta builds in November and at least one in December.  After that, only those users with Ambassador access will be able to get into the gamma (release candidate) builds.

I hate being in a GMT +12 zone sometimes It's 12:45PM Friday here... and after seeing the 'Beta 4 Tommorow' notice on galciv2.com yesterday by this time I figured I would be in luck same time today. *sigh* Work in three hours, Comeon my favorite Stardock peoples, I wanna play before I have to labour.

Woot! Someone heard my prayer! Downloading now. YEAH!!

Edit 10 mins later: Crap! SDC has buggered up on me and won't install it! *sigh* I hate it when this happens, Now I have to uninstall SDC, reninstall, update SDC, THEN try and redownload Galciv2 and hope it works... Good news though, Stardocks servers absolutely nailed the download speed - I got top rate for my connection.

Edit A further ten minutes later: And I can't uninstall SDC because Windowblinds 5 Beta has an issue with my systems properties and control panels screens and refuses to open them on click So I have to uninstall Windowblinds 5 (through SDC and hope it works) then uninstall SDC, then reinstall, fill in network information, download Galciv2 and hope I'm good to go. Nooooooo! (Sorry to moan, I'm just trying to appreciate any latent humour in my circumstances)

Carielf I sent you the SDC log that you requested... I haven't tried reinstalling SDC yet. But I'll do that shortly and hopefully it might fix the problem. As stated in my email - my issue seems to be general with SDC, and happens with anything I download on Objectdesktop or TGN...

However now someone else has a problem with the Galciv2 install as well?? Hmm..
