Ideas for enhancing the NON-MILITARY game aspects

Non-military / non-ship ideas

Lucky Jack brought up a good counter-point in a thread about enhancing the ground combat. He mentioned that if one small part of the military portion of the game gets a lot of extra attention, then it will put too much emphasis on military victory. GalCiv was always about multiple paths to victory, including Technology, Culture and Alliance Victory. Does anyone have any ideas for improvements to the non-military game aspects? It would be great if we could come up with some ideas that Stardock hasn't thought of that may not be too difficult (or too late) for them to implement.

Some areas that come to mind that have not been discussed much are:
- Economics
- Trade
- Government / Government Types
- Morality (Good/Neutral/Evil)
- Culture
- Colonization Events
- Population Growth / Food Production
- Morale
- Taxes

This is too much to cram into one thread, so I suggest that people with ideas in these areas start some new threads.

well one thing that could enhance cultureal victory and trade routew descions is the influence of a stronger culure spreading through trade

historically trade has been a major travel route of ideas technology religon diseases exct and i odnt c how on a galactive scale it should be any different

an example of how this might work is lets say your a medium sized empire trying for a culural victory you can either trade with a bigger empire to get more money to build and support more culural improvements at the risk of loosing some culuraly identity or you can trade with a smaller empire that has less culural identity at a loss but you would further spread your culture

While ProudCanadian has a good point I think we might want to table this topic until after Beta 4 comes out next week. We really have no idea what the current state of the game is.

I suspect thats why diplomacy isn't on his list.

I know its been done in other games but I kinda liked the idea that you could get governers (and maybe ship commanders) that could offer there services to you especially if you have higher influence or luck. Morality could also limit who wants to join you. The could have a picture and some a few abilities such as good at research but also have a monthly cost.

Or since you already have governers to control production ques, even if you don't maek a system to recruit them or pay them, maybe make a all the different governers have minor bonuses and you have to pick the one you want for certain types of planets.

I think it would be cool if you got lucky one game and Dr. Xafod or whatever offered his services. So you governers had a bit more personality and you got geeked up because the Terminator Governer or whatever gives all the planets he's over that +2% industrial bonus. Or you mourn the loss of the rare daring ship commander that gave your fleet +1 speed .

kinda like a RTW govener/ general thing?

Yeah, something like that. Especially as they have already have programed planets to have governers over them. Maybe they could have a bit of flavor ! What was the system like in RTW ?

well in RTWyou had a ruling family and each memeber started out with certain characteristics and with each battle won or for a certain amount of years govenering they would get both good and bad characteristics

to get more family members you could either wait for a couple to have babies and then wait for those babies to come of age or marry offf one of the unmarried female daughters of the family to a male from another family (back in Rome this was common the game was just trying to be historically accurate)

of course since there is no ruling family in gla civ i guess you would be able to hire out your goveners and issue them to the planets or fleets that you want them to go to

one of the interesting strategic values that this imposes is the option to hire out assassins to kill other civs family members and if gal civ is to put in a general system i think that it would be nice if you can hire assassins to cause fear in the enemies bueracracy
