Pacing - First level techs are very slow

It seems to me that it takes a very long time to complete your first technology, but subsequent techs start to flow much more quickly. Does the first tech on each tree need to be made cheaper?

That's another issue we'll be tweaking and hopefully have almost-perfect for Beta4, but i do suggest looking at your spending...at the beginning of the game you may jsut be putting alot of time into military and not giving the necessary love to research.

Actually I just left the spending sliders alone and cranked up my tax rate to pay for colony ships. Didn't change government spending though. Does a high tax rate eat into research efficiency?

There is problem with tech spacing most definately. I mean I was focusing on beam research. Now I was able to research a new beam weapon every 2 weeks What the hell? My average ship took 9 weeks to build. That's insane :/ I'll build a ship and already its guns are 4 generations behind.

Ahhh, now that you mention it, I did notice that as well. The tech costs don't increase enough on the Beam Weapon track as you move up. I didn't play too far yet, but I'm going to assume that other tech tracks have a similar problem.

I haven't gone past level IV on anything yet. Do they ever switch to doing heavier damage rather than lower size/cost?

SO far not really, I noticed higher lvl missles doing 2 damage instead of 1, but Im still a novice to the tech tree. The thing that pisses me off the most is the fact the computer "defender" ship is a small hull with 6/1 beams. What the fuck? I cant get 6/1 on a medium hull with higher tech lvl...
