In addition to dragging the tech tree around, I found that if you click on a tech (but you have to click in the right spot, it's kind of finicky) it will center that tech in the bottom screen. I like the fact that the techs you can research are ordered by cost, but the navigation of the tree still leaves something to be desired.
BTW, given that you can now start out with some of the techs already researched, is there any point in researching the pre-requisite techs for the ones you already have? If researching the pre-req tech opens up other branches in the tree I can see it, but not if the only successor is a tech you already have.
