Females

Anti-Feminist Strategy-First

Ive noticed that through Galactic Civilization their has NEVER, been a female Altarian, Drengin, Human especially, etc.
In GalCiv2 I notice the same linear. How about adding Ambassadors or for Galactic reports a member of your species is in that position that is atleast, not wearing explicit attire and is female of cros, but maybe going over the line of Explicit, Cleaveage isn't a bad idea, right CariElf?

I dont think Strategy First is aiming for players to believe that when their a space-faring Empire that has a monopoly literally on Beams and Point-Defense that their society although Democratic is Male-Dominat or that is what I will only experince, right community?

Anybody. Are we going to have any female cinematics?

I concur, although I do find the typical "near nude" look rather overdone by many games. I wouldn't object, however, to a balanced mixture of clothed and near nude.

You mean like as a secretary or something?

Kidding.

Looking back on it, though, I only remember three humans being pictured in the original GalCiv. Four if you count the Altarian as a human. And two of them were the millitary guys from the victory movie. Not really an egregious omission, considering the small sample size.

I am being comical with the explicit part but anyway I would prefer now to see an Altarian women showing emotions, etc at Diplomatic talks or something... I dont know a Female Noble or Daughter of the president of the Altarian Republic...

While agreeing with Yaguer on the thesis, I must point out the inaccuracy of the original statement that there has "NEVER been a female ... human". The original GC (for OS/2) had static images of 2 human women that appeared announcing GNN news items. One appeared for good civilizations, and the other for evil. GC for Windows replaced them with the robot moving its arms.

Mmmmmmmmmm FEMALES!!! Can they be topless... or better yet as the Feringi (the females never wear clothes at all). javascript:editor_insertHTML('ucCommentForm_comments_txtBody',' ')

Why would they replace Humans with robots. That just means unemployment, morality, ethics, etc including Feministic rallys.

Anyway as usual any offical word?

There was another thread on this a month or two ago, Carielf said at the time she wants to include a few female characters in the game but its not a high priority at this point. UNtil that other thread I had never noiticed that there were no female characters. To be honest though, for all I know the Torian ambassador is female, I'm no pro on alien biology!

As for robots, they can also speak multiple languages with ease and in the case of the news robot they are an impartial face. Drengin wont get mad at seeing Altarian anchormen report on the latest Drengin defeat if its an anonymous robot talking.

The opening movie of GalCiv features a female human. That makes one out of five instead of zero of four.

In GC1 the news robots (3) fit the evil/good alignment of the player. The evil robot looked like a mechanized, fire breathing, boss of the inferno.

Personally, I would be quite disturbed if they decided to include women as leaders or in any other role, only to have them exposing a lot of cleavage. Let's keep the drool off the keyboard please and include women but have them just as modestly dressed as the men. I know that I personally do not play games to drool over the characters on the screen.... do you? I find the fact that women seem to only be included if they are half naked rather repulsive.

As far as a leader image, I would love to see a female leader who is in her 40s, greying and perhaps a little wrinkled... well, for the humans and altarians at least. I say this, because as far as I can tell, all human leaders ARE in their 40s or older, greying and a bit wrinkled in real life.... Has anyone seen a prime minister, president, or whatever that wasn't (with the exception of royals who inherit the crown early due to a death)?

I must agree though, not being a xenobiologist, that I have no idea if the other leaders are male, female, or something else. However, the names still suggest a male dominated society, e.g. "Lord" whatever.

Also, I must point out that it's not Strategy First who is designing the game. It's Stardock Strategy First is primarily a distributor/printer who also publishes games from Paradox Entertainment, Primal Software and others that I can't think of off the top of my head. Paradox Entertainment's "Victoria - an Empire under the Sun" has several elements of feminism in it's earliest form, the Women's Suffrage movement, Queen Victoria, and Queen whatshername of the Netherlands (mid 1800s to early 1900s). So it's definitely not SFs fault

My pet peeve about almost any game set in a fantasy setting. Tbh I find it embarrasing to play and irritating, so if female characters do make it into GC2, I don't want to see them all in skin tight leather cat suits unzipped at the top to display their anatomically impossible cleavage. Real women feel free to dress like that, fictional computer game characters like Lara Croft are just sadly embarrassing. Most of us aren't 14 year old boys. /rant mode off

Just a reminder, as the lead designer is a woman, this isn't a sexism issue. It's more of a "we didn't really think about it" kinda thing.

Considering whether the Civilizations leaders are Female or not is simple. Breast, facial appearence, appears sleek and silky... Their all Sentient beings.

I dont know abouts 40's, Altarian and Humans in 2225 should posess long ages, around 140-160.
An women in GalCiv-2 should atleast be wearing an long skirt, jewelry and necklance with gems, hair long or short to determine status, Military or Noble.

Not all of the races in GC/GC2 are mammals so all the females wouldn't have breasts.

Indeed and if you like the inserctoid race leader would most likely be female if they follow normal hive culture like teran insects

Excellent point. From now on the insectoid species (Krath?) leader shall hereby be reffered to as 'she'.

Incidentally, Stardock makes Galactic Civilizations.  Strategy First was the "publisher" of Galactic Civilizations I and is not involved in the sequel.

So what did happen to all the females in the future? Did they get tired of the males wasting their time with pointless video games and sports broadcasts? Maybe they relocated to a universe where the guys are more interested in fashion and romance?

ok, that's just silly. But maybe more females would be interested in GalCiv 2 if the technology tree had some interesting new additions? How about these:

- Advanced Handbags
- Binge Shopping Economics
- Starship Interior Decorating
- Zero Gravity Fashions
- Hyper Malls
- Xeno Jewellery
- Galactic Shoe Repository (a Galactic Wonder)

No?

Well ok, I'll settle for a reasonable distribution of males and females in the graphics and animations then. And don't bother with the "nearly nude" or "ultra-cleavage" stuff, because that's just tacky.

If I remember right in the Altarian one. One of the Minor races I don't remember which one it Was. Was all Female, They lived over 1000 years and were searching for thier male counter parts.Ofcourse we never got to see them.
I think it randomly attached that description to any of the minor races. I've seen different descriptions for the same named species...

I also noticed that there was a female dominated "modern" minor race.

There is a woman in charge of the current Shuttle flight.

She has the men outside, scabbling around cleaning tiles and cleaning the windows.
