Need a "Probe" hull type

I hope to see ALL ships in the game being "buildable" from a base Hull type and components on the ship design screen. This would also include ships like the Sensor Drone. In order to make something as tiny as a Sensor Drone, I suggest that a new "Probe" hull type be created. It should be small enough that at the start of the game you only have enough space for a sensor component and a couple support components. As you get more miniaturization levels, you may be able to add a *little* bit more, like an engine or more sensors.

Unique idea all its own. Perhaps in combat Captiol-Ships can deploy these to gain a visual advantage and during planetary-invasion they're deployed in orbit to take more detailed photos of Captiol, Improvements, Terrain.

I have yet to understand what benefit there is to having a sensor ship that has less travel range and speed, and less sensor range than a crewed ship. If a prob hull type that was uncrewed and thus required less in the way of support modules to substantially enhance range and got much more out of its engine(s) was available, then they would be worthwhile to me. The sensor probes in GC1 had the greatest range of any of the GC1 ships, but was a bit slower.

But Sensor ships around your Territory ment you knew what was coming at you in all angles Lucky boy.
Sensors should be the same thing as they were in GalCiv2.

Canadian, are you saying you want to design/upgrade your own custom probes? I suppose an simple answer might be more pre-set probe designs becoming availiable as you progress technologically, in the way you are awarded the Star fighter once you research its pre-requisites. So a Probe Mk2 with superior range/speed maybe. Might be simpler for stardock to do than implementing another custom hull and just as good.

If you mean the present sensor probe stats, dont worry about that. The game isn't balanced up yet, the probes will get sorted out in time, there will be plenty more things like this about which is what the beta is intended for. Game balancing comes in at a later stage in the beta, once things are coded in they can be tweaked.

We definatly have sensor hulls planned for the game...they just have to be made ATM

I guess the point I was trying to make was that ALL ships in the game should be:
(Base Hull) + extras = Ship
I don't want to see ANY pre-fab, non-upgradable ships in the game. BoogieBac seems to have confirmed that this will be the case.

One thing that I remember from GC1 was that Sensor Probes had a maintenance cost of ZERO. This was great, since I could put up a cheap "early warning system" around the perimeter of my territory with no per-turn cost to maintain. Maybe an advantage of the base "probe hull" could be no maintenance cost. Perhaps it would have a cost if you added certain components to the base hull? Just an idea.
