CTD When Colonising

Sound is fine.
Game loads quickly
Screen is 1024 X 768 normally. Not sure what it is with GC2. Cannot see how to change it.

When I try to colonise I get a CTD.. Tried it several times. Always the same.

hi marquesa

i thought the colony ctd was fixed with the latest gc2 download (April 1). maybe your gfx driver's a bit out of date?

maybe your gfx driver's a bit out of date?

It looks like very possible:
Driver Name: ati2dvag.dll
Driver Version: 6.14.0010.6360
Driver Date: 6/3/2003 10:41:02

I am still getting the colony crash problem with 0.11b - infrequent now but still...

You can change GC resolution in the prefs.ini in the \Data folder

Yeah, I got a few err files from players still getting crashes when colonizing.

We'll see what's going on now and try to get it fixed for the next Beta.

Bob,
Check the video info in the debug file. Then check to see what the latest available drivers are. Many of us have partially solved this problem by upgrading our video drivers.

I bet it's a colonization EVENT crashing us occasionally. Just a wild guess on my part...

Has anyone been able to determine whether the colonization CTD happens only when autocoloning? I have tried moving the colony ship next to the planet on autopilot then moving it onto the planet using the cursor keys and it seems to work. Using autopilot all the way to the planet has failed on me a few times. (This sounds similar to a problem that showed up during the beta of GC1.)

Hmmm....I disabled all the colonization events and the first time colonization cutscene so I don't think it's that.  We'll be looking into it though.

I updated my video card driver....using the Microsoft web site.

Now I can colonise.

I have noticed that when I allocate farm/factories etc to the squares and then change one of them.....say a farm to a factory, they ALL change to a factory.
I will experiment more.

I don't think its auto-colonising as i only ever send my colony ships via auto-pilot directly the the planet.

I know the original crash occured when the Colony Ship was selected as it colonized.  The "Ship Info Context WIndow", at the bottom of the main screen, would try and update the ships data even though, upon colonization, the ship would be deleted.

I don't know what the most recient crash was caused from, but it soulds like they got those fixed for tomorrows build.

It still happens on build 0.12. I am sending a SE report and debug file to Scott.

Well, my copy of SmartException is failing now, so the report I got is worthless.

I cured it on the first build by updating my Video card driver, but it is back with this latest build.

For first time now I am getting a CTD when I colonize right at the beginning of the game, I have downloaded the latest version, didn't have this problem in the prior versions.

Same as << mayito8888 >> I now get a CTD on the first planet colonized (after the initial planet of course). Got to four before updating my video driver. Now with the latest, I can't get to number 2! Maybe game updates will be more stable!
