No sound {Win2k, SB Audigy LS)

I've just installed the beta and can't get the sound to play. DX9.0c, Win2k SP4, SB Audigy LS installed.

Also, is there any specific boilerplate to use for beta reports?

You did install the Multimedia Pack, right?

Not sure what you mean about boiler plate reports.

If you have a specific crash to report, get debug.err and the CRA file from Smart Exception. Send or post these two files along with any information about what you were doing at the time that might be helpful. (If you're not running Smart Exception before GC2 already, do so! Link )

I hadn't got sound either, and assumed that sound was not included at this early stage, due to file sizes. After reading this thread, I went back to stardock application and found that the next app down the list is called "multimedia", and so I downloaded that on a hunch that it's for this program.

The multimedia pack should be sub-directory style indented, so that it obviously belongs to GC2. At least two people didn't find it right the first time.

EDIT: AFTER downloading the file, it now appears as a sub-item of GC2 in Stardock.

Dr.Nick: Let us know if the multimedia update fixes this problem.  If it dosen't we'll look into it further.

Bingo. After installing the multimedia pack everything played nicely! It sounds very nice, by the way!

RE Boiler plate forms: When letting someone know of a technical problem, it's good to gather all sorts of helpful information like OS version, video driver version, etc. Having a standard form to fill out with this info might be good i.e. A web form that can be filled out at the time of the issue and then submitted. Maybe the error log could be attached to the form as well.

My $.02

Have you looked at the debug file? All that info is saved by the game at startup. This is one of the reasons the Stardock people ask for the debug file whenever you send in a bug report via e-mail. (They also want the SmartException report for crashes.)

I see a file called debug.err, but not one called smartException; is it also an automatically created text file?

With SmartException loaded if it catches a GalCiv crash it will drop a file in, by default, the root directory of the drive named GALCIV2.EXE.CRA. It's a text file with more debugging info and will help Stardock pinpoint what area of the code was the culprit.
