Problems with the turn button vanishing is one the the things noted in the release notes for the current beta.

Happened to me too. So I turned off the computer, rebooted and I played couple of game without the button dissapearing. The game crashed after a while in both cases.

Same here, even though I can still access all other menus with no problems. I can still retire and get back to the main menu but when starting a new game it crashes (after NEXT TURN disappearance). Herre is the error :

Read the release notes.

They comment that if the turn button vanishes you may need to play around with the viewing window a bit. Shouldn't have had to reboot!

The turn button is also dissappearing on me. Sometimes wiggling the main galaxy view will get it to come back, but not always. I tried everything I could think of this last time and gave up.

Yeah happend here too - I got it back by Alt-Tabbing out and then Into the game and its working fine now. Only cost seems to have been that the anomalies are now a white mess - maybe the Alpha Map of the image?

I trying the alt-tabbing trick and it didn't work for me.

Although I did get the Turn button to come back a few times by clicking arond the screen. I stopped working after the 3rd or 4th time, though.

Are you running in windowed mode or in fulsscren mode (one of the options in pref.ini)?

Fullscreen=1.

In fullscreen, ALT+TAB doesn't work very well. You could used a windowed mode (fullscreen = 0) with the resolution set at the display resolution.

I've lost the turn button a bit. Most of the time, scrolling around, clicking on "Find", and then giving my survey ship "Auto" fixed it. Twice, nothing would fix it. I think the game was in a turn resolution loop. I saw that on the basis that it behaved similar to "long turn" behavior. I have seen some long turns where the "Next" button took a couple of minutes to *reappear*. And while it was "vanished", I still had full control of the UI. Just no "Next" button.

The same as post 12 here. Again the Next button missing but I still have full access to the screen.

Following Peace Phoenix's suggested change to the Prefs file worked for me!
The file was located in my C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming.net\GalCiv2\Data folder.

Check it out!

Although the button still goes missing now and then, but it has always come back with using the Find key after moving the screen around a little.

I lose the next button everytime one of my ship enters foreign space and there's no way to have it back. And as the game crashed anytime I load a saved game, I can only play for a few weeks before I have to restart from scratch

This problem is considerably reduced in the latest load (0.12) but there are still times when I have to jiggle the map around to get it to pop back into place. Haven't had any total loss of the game on this level so far (because of the next button vanishing).

I am getting this now with the beta 2 - version 0.20b[b].002

I even have a saved game that is stuck with no next button!

I have tried alt-tabbing (full-screen) and moving the map around, and hitting the find button, all to no avail. I will try windowed mode next.

Try pressing 'Enter'. That worked for me when nothing else would. I also believe it advanced the turn.

I have thought I was seeing this several times, but if I leave the room for a few minutes, the screen updates and the turn button comes back. I have mine in windowed mode and have a CPU usage meter up. The usage meter doesn't show any more usage with the next button gone than with it there, so bit twirling doesn't seem to be a suspect here, so maybe it is waiting on something.

I have even seen the turn button missing and everything else working. Planet lists could be called up, the map could be shifted around, I left the room for many minutes, etc... Then I pressed the enter button and the game went to the next turn (the auto-pilot ships moved, the auto save occured, and the turn button came back.

My last game got to the point where even the enter key would not advance the game. Nothing would. This is beginning to look like some kind of a cascade failure. I am sending the last save of this game and the debug file to Scott.

I thinjk there may be multiple cases where the turn key stays hidden when it should show up.

I found one case just now. If you colonize a planet and have the planet view up and assign social projects to tiles, when you want to dismiss the planet view, be sure to hit the done button on the planet view, not the turn button on the main screen, (they are right next to each other vertically, which leads to confusion). If you click the wrong button by mistake the turn button goes away and does not return, but all the other functions (as far as I tested) seem to work. Pressing the enter button gets you to the next turn and the turn button shows up again.

And a request: Please make the planet view window extend all the way to the bottom of the main window, thus hiding the turn button. (If it is important, I am in windowed mode and using a custom resolution of 1300*1140.)

Here is another observation that may be associated with this problem. An impression that the turn button is gone could be due to the long processing times that develops after playing for many hours. My current game was developing very long processing times during the end of turn period, but saving and reloading the game reduced the time very significantly.

Jack, we used to have the window fullscreen but we changed it so that you could see the treasury and population, and access the button bar.  Also, you could hit the turn button when viewing the planet window in GC1.

When the turn button gets stuck, try clicking on your autopilot ships and reset their destination.
