GalCiv2 Concerns

I just wanted to say that even though I have never played Galactic Civilizations it looks like GalCiv2 has some serious potential. With that said the reason I am coming here and posting this is because I do have some concerns. I do feel strongly that multiplayer should be included in the game design from the ground up and working out of the box. If I may make another multiplayer suggestion aswell, GalCiv2 MUST have simultaneous turns and also a save function that works. As much as I enjoy learning with the single player elements the replay value for me comes with real people. With GalCiv2 looking so good and fans of the genre still waiting for a true Moo2 replacement, Stardock has a good opportunity here. I'm sure GalCiv2 will be a good game but, if it shipped with a solid stable multiplayer component it has the potential to be a great game, even a classic.

Best of wishes, Zargrim

Multiplayer will not be in GalCiv2 because the vast majority of players do not play multiplayer. Putting in multiplayer support means that some other features will need to be left out to put in multiplayer support.

oesn't mean much fun, but multiplayer is intended to save the day. From the statements of the developers, it is very clear that this will not happen to GalCiv 2, which is a very good thing imho.

including it.

t with no use?

Risk has this function and it's GREAT. Even played with AI it's lot better. But GC is not in the same situation. So why should this passs over other innovations?

ose who presume to know exactly how many people would and would not play multiplayer: Respectfully, speak for yourselves, but not the rest of us.

optional tactical combat is a mistake as well. Alot of the fun of MOO2 was building ridiculous ships to see if they would work in tactical combat. Anyway I'll play GalCiv2 no matter what, but what I really want is MOO 2.5.

As an addendum to the previous post, one can use Ventrilo or Roger Wilco to communicate with your buddy, which makes the game all the better as you coordinate against the computer.

In my experience, the # of people who really want multiplayer just isn't that large. I love multiplayer games but I'm in the minority.

Well, I wouldn't have spoken about tactical gameplay with Galciv (1 or 2) as there isn't any real tactical fight: everything is at strategic level.

multiplayer 4x TBS game, have a look at Space Empires IV. This game was written with a focus on multiplayer, and I think you'll like it.

t there is a significant, quiet, and growing fan-base for GalCiv2 that would play multiplayer, were such a feature to be implemented into the game.

(Cue to the "I have a dream speech"...)

Is this so? I don't think that many would object multiplayer as long as it doesn't mean watering down the single player game - which won't happen, so the single players wouldn't lose anything.

game forums: many in these forums would like a good mp, but most people buying Civ just aren't so fond of it.

n the single player game compared to what would have been done if all ressources were dedicated to it.

If not including multiplayer allows them to spend more time on single player, then Id rather not have mp
