I have noticed an error with the Build-Queue times (both the demo and 1.20.087). At the end of one turn the planets list showed me that 3 projects would complete (and yes I checked both social and mili.) but the result when pressing the end turn button was that 6 projects were completed. The first few times this happened I assumed it was due to population increase or some other factor causing the production to increase by one. But then I noticed that the build time and cost was slightly off so that ex. a colony ship would, according to the build time cost 51 shields and not 50.
I then did a little research and found that normally the time to completion is n+1, but if the remaining units = (produced units)*n then the remaining time is n. Where n is the number listed.

An example a planet produces 10 shields, it starts building a colony ship, costing 50 shields, the time to completion is listed as 5 not 4 as it should be.
In an early game or a game with a huge number of planets tweaking the production sliders on each turn can mean the difference between getting an important planet, resource, or trade-good.

Mathematically the build time T is now:
T = c div p

Actually it should be:
T = top(c/p) -1
or
If (c mod p > 0) then
T = c div p
Else
T = (c div p) -1

where c is cost and p is production

And then a little featur request: what about displaying the remaining number of buid points for the selected projects.

Got the following CTD when trying to load from an autosave. I'm using the mini-colony ship, the cultural capital, and the religious capital mods. I'll try to send you the saved game.

I have two save games that demonstrates the disapearing anomalities bug, I saved the game and left, the next time my survey ship, had a path to an empty patch of space. The reason I know it is not suppost to be empty is that I made two saves during the same turn, load the first and it's still there, load the second and it's gone.

The number of turnes left for a research project is off, I have had research not complete, even though the research page showed that it should complete next turn, and research complete when it said 3 turns.

Since the spending on research and the actual output in tearms of research-points depend on both the civ-wide research ability and the varying planetary bonuses, the excact relationship can only be determined by trial and error (read "try and reload")

Yes this is a long known bug. The system uses a wrong number for the bonus research to calculate the research turns. It uses the value of the last turn instead of the current turn. But for research itself it uses the correct numbers.

This has awkward effects.
- After a reload the value of the last turn is empty and thus the system underestimates your research capabilities.
- When you increase your research via spending sliders the system again underestimates your research, but when you decrease your spending it overestimates your research which is even worse.

Cari told us that it is unmanageable old code but I still hope that she will be successful.

Star Pilot: I will always take save games that reproduce bugs.  If you still have it, I'll take a look at it when I get a chance.  Just make sure to describe in the e-mail what the bug is that I'm supposed to be looking for. :)

flemish: I believe that I have fixed that bug, although we have not yet updated Gal Civ 1.2.  The fix should be in the Altarian Prophecy beta though.

Here's another CTD. I've reloaded the saved game twice and reproduced the problem twice. I've emailed the saved game to Cari.

Not sure if either of these is a bug or not, but thought I'd mention them. Neither is a serious game issue.

I lost all my worlds to an event (when the fundamentalist first spawned), but used transports to retake some of those worlds on that same turn. Still lost the game when clicking end-turn even thought I did have planets now.

Avatar-Overlord class space sharks in my games look like minor-race or pirate ships. Intentional? Or are they still supose to look like space sharks?

Has anyone else seen the following bug?

While the menu animation is running or while playing the game, if I click on certain areas of the screen, I get a warning message "No Disk Present in Drive D:. Insert Disk." I do not have the CD version of the game. This bug showed up in one of the early 1.20 versions (I think). I'm currently running 1.20.087. I'm running WinXP but I think it showed up on my Win98 machine before I got the new one.

Thanks,

Joe

Free research bug.

At the last turn last night I almost compleated a research project, my guess is that I missed the mark by 1-2% of the total cost of that technology. When I started the game again today I had somehow suddenly completed the research project anyway. Thinking back I have had this happend a few times.

I have the savegames, but I don't know where to send them.

Hi,

On my GalCiv 1.2.087, on a Windows 2k machine, the games freezes and crashes when selecting Military Production as a trait. This is regardless to what else I select as traits or which Party I select.

Anyone else has the same problem? Searched this forum without any posts on the subject.

Two bugs, possibly already reported, possibly just cosmetic:

1.) the established date of all trade routes shows up as "n/a" all of the time
2.) saved games have a one-digit minute and second description rather than a two-digit. (ie. 11:07:04 shows up as 11:7:4)

Thanks!

Sorry if this is already here, but I'm not going to wade through 262 prior messages.

Logistics ability from captured improvements is not added to ones ability until you build another improvement, and even then not always.

The Logistics center and the Starbase resupply center & capital (or whatever they're called) totalled should (this is from memory) give a logistics of 35%. I've had abilities from 40% to 80%. On the game I bothered to add up all the goodies I'd built or captured, my ability should have been 105% but was only 55%. I tried trashing one to see if it would force a recalculation but no luck (:(
I think my main gripe here is that there is no apparent consistancy here - What is meant to happen?
Reply #265 Top
I guess that it is like wonder or trade goods: it is the completion that give the empire wide bonuses. Capturing the improvement don't give anything that is empire wide (but idf there are planet level bonuses, they are gained).

Cultural flip, and surrender during game load.

In my current game I was close to anihilating the Yor, they had some 10 stars left, and only one ship sitting at the oposit side of a gigantic galaxy. :D

When I loaded the game the next day the Yor "Spit in my face and surrendered to the Arceans" >:( I was a bit anoyed so I reloade, this time they surrendered to the Torians :SURPRISED: (my only remaining trading partner). I had to back up a turn in order to get them not to surrender on reload, or any planets flipping for that matter.

This is SmartException's log of a problem that is driving me absolutely nuts. It usually happens when I clicked "Turn" and let the ships go about their business. Doesn't happen all the time, but usually when I've spent a boatload of time executing a plan. :(

I don't know if this has been reported: Save games does not save enough info to calculate correct score.

After saving my game for the night (last night) I retired in order to check my score, and discovered that I had researched 0 tech, killed 0 ships, lost 0 troops, etc. my score was ~6k. Tonigh after playing a few turns, I saved my game for the night, to test the scoring I started shooting up AI ships, and grabbing planets, this time, I had killed some 26 AI ships, a couple of bilion troops, and researched 1 tech, my score was now ~10k.

Does this mean that my score will be seriousely off because I played a game stretching over weeks in trealtime? I don't have the time to play a whole game in one go.

Whenever I load my game, the cultural influence in sectors is wrong for the first turn or two. Then it returns to normal. This is an unnerving bug, because once I almost lost a planet, because the influence was badly calculated :/

It is a behavior that is in Galciv since the first version. And Stardock has already stated on the topic that the savegame needs to be bigger to save all data in order to have a correct influence calculation on reload. As they have choosen not to expand the size of savegames, I don't think this behavior will be corrected.

This is not the second time this has happened in AP. If you play a game, whether you finish or not I don't know, since I did not finish, with a custom map, the next game you play on a normal AP huge, sparce, maso map, the game won't submit. It tells me that I am using an unauthorized custome map or scenario. The last time this happend, it took three games before it cleared up, either because of reloading the game (I think that is what I did) or something else. I will try reloading the game and see if the next game will submit. I would send you the game, but the last time I did that CariElf said she could not read the game becuase I use MODS, so she could not figure out what was wrong.

There is a bug in the stats screen for the AI, I have seen for some times but forget to report it, when checking the AI trade routes:
If Altarians have the systeme Calinor and Carinoids Russel, the trade route between Calinor and Russel will be described as:
Calinor to Altarians (Russel).
Which is strange and don't easily help to find the trading partners of a given civilization.

I would like to know why my TOTAL score went from 117779 to101661 from one game to the next? I had a death in my family and did not play for a little over a month. I don't think a person should be penalized because they are unable (through no fault of their own) to play for a while!
Reply #274 Top
I'm going to have to go looking to see if this has happened before, but as is.. I've studied Tourism, yet Enhanced Tourism doesn't show up - despite having it's only prerequisite listed as Tourism. That, and the Carinoids build the Galactic Taxi Service, which made me mad, as I was racing to build everything first >_<

Annoying to suddenly find I can't research anything along the tourism path.

Along with that I've got this strange thing where under morality of nations I know, even at varying levels of espionage, the morality says "string not found".

I am sorry about what happened to your family :( .
But how Stardock could know what happened to you?
And the rule is the same for everyone.

But I have problem wit hyour score, since I am not sure about the formulas for games aged from more than 10 months. But is seems that you were hit by different things:
- the global 1 month aging of your score (roughly 5% from 117779 = 5.8 K) which isn't completly compensate by your game (4.3 K)
- movements between blocks with the fact that more recent blocks are 30-days blocks when olders are 70-days blocks. And in this case, having low score games can really be a killer since an averaging effect take place.
