Can you give me a clue?

I've been playing for a couple of months and I am getting nailed most of the time. Midgame their planets have 32K populations and mine are still around 5K. I am building medical tech and other people improvements. Does Morale affect Population growth? Also how can I get them to trade with me? I need to offer them 5 things to get 1 and they seem to trade freely among each other.?

What level are you playing at?

Moral definitely affects population growth.
The higer the faster.
Below 50% and population will decrease.

By trade I assume you mean swapping techs and not using Freighters?
Your influence affects your ability to trade.

hi rex - morale does affect population growth. you need to keep morale high for population growth, either by building/researching morale boosters, improving PQ or by moving your population about. Your relationship with the AI players is determined by many factors, but diplomacy is important, so get good diplomacy picks and research/build those items too. Trade is dependent on researching certain techs to get more trade routes. Trade also improves your relationships with the AI players. Basically, if you have good relations with the AI players you get better deals.

joining an empire improves your relationships WITH THE WHOLE WORLD...

An important point to remember is that morale at 100% gives you a base pop growth rate of 6% while morale at 54-99% gives you a 3% growth. So one percentage point can double or halve your growth rate. The AI is good at keeping morale at 100% for the increased growth.

There are certain military techs that are overvalued by the AI so it's not cheap to trade for them. Conversely, they are worth alot if you trade them to others. Some examples - Defenders, Interstellar Tactics, Battleship, Disruptors and rest of capital ship techs.

only thing i can say is to check out the GC Stratergies section of the forum. You can find some really helpful ideas for begining stratergies there. Or you could seek the one known as Admiral Mayito7777 and ask him. last time i saw him he was on the way to kill a few EURO's somewhere in the Jedi thread section. :D

how many colony ships are you pumping out? i noticed that if i go a little overboard with colonizing planets, i end up spreading my self out a bit too thin. getting a lot of planets is a good thing, but then on the other hand, haveing a lot of planets with low populations during hostile times is not a good idea.

The trick is to stay out of hostile times untill you have more population. :) I usually take a few +Pop growth picks just in case. If you've got more planets than anyone else, as soon as you've built them up you've practically won.
