The new research system

It's in development now

We're currently working on the new research screen. It is a pretty significant departure from the old "tech tree".  It's much more linear now with it categorized into specific areas (propulsion, weapons, etc.).

When you select a particular category, indviidual tech trees will show up that let you move up, for instance, the beam weapons tech tree under "weapons".

If anyone has any requests, this is the place to do it.

a convenience for the dev team, and later on modders, any stats might be read from the stats files, rather than typed by hand into a description. That way there's no problem with descriptions getting 'out of sync' with the current values.

act same path and can use the same techs in the same way, but they are in the same "Marvellous World of Science".

its own tree, or is there something fundamenttally different?

ave to invest more research points.

get note of this idea and we'll try to get a consensus

ell with tech with lasers such as - shield piercing, energy draining, - MIRV for missles, etc.

techs (instead of pre-requisites), if they have any. This way it's clear to a player that if they research tech X fist, tech Y will be easier to research.

cular large battle with the Drengin fleet your scientists analyse the battle and think they see a weakness. They suggest research into a new wepon type (or tactic).

who have "beaten the game" already and look for new challenges.

having unqiue trees would be cool - but game balancing issues may prevent that.

uld be to have a game where they go "WOW that was MOO3 should have been". I guess my bitterness twoards QS and MOO3 is showing

shop by the Arceans would lead them to discover a Precursor industy tech, which would boost their industry. This tech could later be stolen and or traded for by other races.

rease Medical research. Maybe there'd be public back-lash against a certain project (cloning?) that would cause a minus to that field for a bit.

Might be a bit too complex to implement at this stage, but it's an interesting idea.

ch or even randomize which tech gets the increase from game to game.

ech tree/currently available options. So the guys playing standard still suffer from an AI that isn't as fine-tuned for the standard tree.

me, as you don't have to code for every exception.

e complete randomness, but expect that some randomness may be the best compromise.
