Welcome to the Fellowship of the Ring Empire Thread - The Sequel. :)

The old FotR thread was getting too big and it was taking too long to load the thread, thus this new one.

Alex, I may take you up on that offer of hosting. I'll email you tonight.

Celeborne, congrats on your gigantic. I'd consider joining the PBEM game, but I'm having enough trouble keeping up with just one. Have fun though.

The Jaws story may get a sequel--I've got something in mind, actually--but not until my schedule frees up a bit.

Alex _ I have already talked with Mexal and she is going to take a character. I am in her game right now in Freeport.

Vincible - Thanks for congrats. I really like the larger games, but they just take soo long some times. I am sure this will keep me from becomoing a really high ranking player, but it is the style I like.

Theoden - Thaks for the well wish, and I hope you can join. The nice thing about the PBEM, it only takes a few minutes at a time. That is what I really like about PBEM so far. You spend more time waiting for the next move than you do playing. It does build the tension during battles as you wait for the results.

Well I am going to start one more Challeging game but going for the Beyond Human win this time. I will see if I can make it or not.

Enjoy. Beyond Human has a great cinematic.

Be warned that Stardock nerfs the scoring on tech victories though.

Well the fun is in the game not in the scoring. I am sure one of these days I will JUST NEED to get that 60K score. ;p

But until that time arrives, I will just have some more fun. Besides, I like becoming a GOD. :SURPRISED: :SURPRISED: :SURPRISED:

See you all later.

Michael,

I recall that when I tried to recruit you at first, you turned me down initially saying you wanted to support the underdogs. Then I managed to persuade you to join the Fellowship, a mid-table side, by convincing you that we were the underdog relative to other big empires above us and that you are always free to leave once we reach the summit.

My sincere thanks to you for your contributions to the Fellowship over the course of our adventure to the top and all the best to you wherever you go. :D

Celeborne,

Good to see the emergence of a second PBEM game on this board. I'm sure there will be sufficient players to start. People like Matthew Downie, Evil Steve and Amidala have expressed an interest to join a PBEM game before.

Well folks,

I've gotten a sudden urge to play another game of Galciv. Seems like my visit to the Galciv reality is going to be longer than I expected. :)

I'm also still waiting for vincible's GOTM.

We can definitely blame the game a bit, because it is a good game. But how do we know it is not also that Ring calling to you? Or the need for Evil Ray to remind the folks on the evil board how it's done? :)
I feel the call of the Ring constantly, my Spymaster friend, even from distant planes.

The temptation is there to go on another long run just to regain that gold medal that I've held for such a long time. But I've played the Metaverse successfully for so many months and I like to believe I've broken free of the Ring's influence.

There is a story to be written here about Evil Ray and his final encounter with the Ring but I don't have the motivation now to write it. :)

Alex, not sure about the capabilities of your server. Would it be easy for you to set up a forwarding email address to just bounce email to me? I'm leery of putting my real email on such a public site, but free accounts probably wouldn't give me the storage required. If it's not easy, don't worry about it.

Also, does anyone remember how you can strip the serial number from a saved game? As I recall, Michael Casey did it somehow but I have no idea how it was done.

No problem to either relay or to store email. Relaying is easier. gotm-at-galciv.org ????

Storage isn't a problem either.

Just started a Maso/Huge/Rare game. I've grown to like the pop growth pick and am now choosing it instead of speed.

Is everyone aware that the continuing payments after death has been changed? Not sure when they changed it exactly but in the latest version, payments cease once one party is eliminated. That means to say that theoritically, you can buy the AI's last planet with a long term payment plan and then have the payment cease once the AI is eliminated in the next turn. Or once you conquer the last AI planet, you can buy lots of stuff from the AI with a 100 turn payment plan and then have the payment cease the next turn.

If you ask me, I rather have the old system of continuing payments.

I've noticed that too, Ray. I think they were just trying to nerf players who whored an AI on the last turn for long term payments (ex. I'm going to conquer this AI, so I'll get them to buy Dreadnaught Tech for 500 BC/100 mts). Unfortunately, it doesn't stop what you suggested. I guess there's no way to completely stop these things.

Really? Tell us more. I went from a large map to a medium map and dropped speed for PQ, influence, and morale. My ships seemed to move like slugs, especially in the beginning.

No. I missed that and thanks for the tip. It is good we are all still learning.

Recently finished a large and am working on a medium. By working backwards from gigantic > huge > large > medium > small > tiny, I am hoping to establish a baseline to evaluate 1.11 scoring changes. So far it is looking like 1.11 has about a 5% scoring bump over 1.10. That 50% scoring bump stuff was all from 1.10 games submitted under 1.11. I should get that medium done today (or tomorrow?) and have more data. Then it is off to the little "maplets". If I can lay off the gigantic, my computer seems fast. ;)

Ray, it is really great to have you posting again. Welcome back (even though you were only gone 10 days?) LOL. In "Gal Civ time" that is eons. :D

My special brew for the last two games of mine was +1 speed, +5% PQ, +10 morale, and luck along with the populist party. A good, all around spread for gaining and maintaining a system majority over the aliens during the game. In the mid game, even PQ 12 planets under that setup make decent advance bases inside alien territory, whether it is for war or culture bombs. They go up to PQ 15 with soil and habitat improvements.

The current game of mine is still in the very early turns, but I am changing the mix a bit and placing my money on +1 speed, +50 diplo, +10 morale (those becoming +70 diplo and +30 morale with populist party). I was never too big on tech whoring, being more of an old school "grind them down the old fashioned way" player. Time to try it pretty much all out, thus the large diplo bonus.

Bunch of chicken you only play masso, why don't you play simple or normal? Are you afraid of the AI? ;) ;)

Alex: sorry to take so long to reply...I've been really busy today! Thanks for getting me setup. I've sent you an email, because I'm having trouble with the permissions.

All: I'll be out of town for the next several days on personal business. Hopefully I'll get some things straightened out with the site when I get back.

Rick,

Wiley has expounded on the benefits of pop growth previously but I personally like it for the increase in money, influence, production and research in the early stage when I'm the most vulnerable. It also gives me troops quicker if I need to blitz any of my neighbours.

My current picks are Populists, +60dip, +70pop.

Smeagol,

Interesting story. Hopefully, this will stimulate another round of story writing here on the Fellowship thread. :)
