What is your one wish for next Pack/Update?

Having been away from GalCiv for a while and just now coming back, I have just one wish (aside from 40 hours in a day), the ability to make legislative proposals.

Of course, I also wish espionage stole more techs with really high espionage expenditures, but I said "one wish"

What is your one wish?

I would like the vertical grid lines to stand out more.
I cannot see them at all on the new version.

I have to use the small map and then try to guess where they are on the large one.

I'd like to see a more complete in-game tech encyclopedia (descriptions of the planetary upgrades, ships, etc. - same as Civ 3's encyclopedia) I was all pumped up about the free expansion because of the Civ-style encyclodpedia, but I was pretty bummed when I discovered that it only describes the techs but none of the structures and ships that you get with them.

Be Carefull what you wish for.. you just might get it... then you'll all be complaining that you can no longer beat GalCiv (until someone finds new tactics and posts tthem.. then the whole thing starts again)

The thing that has bothered me the most about GalCiv and other games like it is that after you play it a few times, the tech tree is memorized. Both you and the AI know exactly what you want and how to go about getting it.

Technology research doesn't work that way. There should be a lot of randomness to when something is discovered and what discovery possibilities it unlocks down the road.

Now, having said that, I have no clue how best to implement that. One thought would be to add spending sliders within Tech spending to determine how much of your Tech dollars go to cultural research vs military vs defensive vs propulsion etc. Then, when a Tech event happens, based on the information received about it, you can make an intelligent (risk management) decision and say if I research more on x now, this could lead to something really good - but it might not.

I like to see more considerations to go into upgrading a government. Currently, it's a no-brainer to upgrade from Republic to Star Federation. Suggest to make it harder to wage wars (maybe long wars) under the more advanced forms of government.

Here's an oldie:

A simple way to put a small number of people in a colony ship no matter what your system's population is. Say 100m. In fact, I've never used a colony ship to carry more than about 100-200 million people at a time. Is there some strategy I'm missing out on?

Some sort of govenor for constructors would be great. I haven't been playing the game long, at the moment I'm using culture palaces ( 2 per sector, major cheese ! ) and it's extremely repetitive to use the constructors. The rally points are more trouble than they are worth.
If you could have a governor to look after the constructors it'd be much handier. Basically you would give the governor a list of priorities ( ie add culture modules, add mining modules etc ).
You would then click on a starbase and assign it a governor.
The final step would be to assign a governor on the planet screen ( the same way you do now for planetary improvements ). The choice of governor here determines which starbases constructors produced by this planet head off to and which modules they add. When a starbase has been maxed out for the set of priorities assigned to it it simply moves onto the next one.

In this way you could, for example, assign a defence governor to starbases bordering your territory to add defensive/offensive modules, another governor could be assigned to starbases on economic routes to add trade modules. I think this would get rid of a lot of the tedious micromanagement in a simple way. Maybe it could even be extended to other units !

Maybe someone already suggested something like this ? Or something simpler ?

When it comes to constructors I send the first one to the resource.I wait until the planet has three or four in orbit and send them all at once as a fleet. This way you only have couple groups moving at once. And do all upgrades at same time rather than one a turn.

Mine is more things can be done on the tactical screen and the mini map will show what is in each sector ie ships. It does not have to be great jus tenough so I can stay in Tactical and see what is really goin on.

Yes there is.
Use them to shift population from planets with a moral problem, to your best quality planets, to boost the population and production.
This is not the right forum for tactics info. ;)

More random alignment events. Lots and lots of events (like, maybe over 50) With different levels of frequency; uncommon, rare, ultra-rare, "you'll-see-it-once-if-you-play-a-lifetime" :D
Also, (yes, I know it says one) I'd love to see the best of the mods from the Library cleaned-up and made game offical.

My one wish is that all the bugs that I mentioned in the Bug-Thread are getting fixed. I really don't need any more features!

Another goodie for me would be to be able to set up player vs player of a few on the net like what Homeworld does.

Could this even be done without rewriting the entire game.

I think stardock has made it clear this will never be done. They have said maybe for Galactic Civilizations 2. But not before then.

This may exist and I just haven't played enough to find it yet, but I would like away from the planet detail screen to see the mini-map, so that I can tell where in the galaxy that particular planet is. At least a 5x5 grid (scaleable?) w/ the planet in question in the center.

Perhaps a button to trade out the large planet graphic with the map?

How about a list of all starbases like the planet list? That would make it a lot easier to manage them without searching all over the map.

SMAC had a "blind research" feature where you could choose a general category that you were more likely to disover, but you couldn't pick specific techs.

I would like to see an option on ships, especially survey ships, to auto explore the unseen portions of the map, or better yet to do that automatically when set to auto survey and there is no anomolies present.

Great thread.

The research screen should show the number of credits needed to complete the research. I spend way too much time tweaking sliders now.
Or conversely, the main economic screen containing your sliders could show the number of months needed to finish research.

I'd like it that if a planet isn't producing a military item (i.e., a ship) that the social build would get the resources that aren't being used.

Direkt numerical input for colony ships (cant create a 100M ship on a 30B planet with the slider).

Transports start with 0M or set the slider minimum to 1M.
