Modding....

I've written a mod....I think.....Followed instructions on GalCiv Writer and the files have been "written". Now what do I do? Is it in the game now? And how do I post them here?

You submit it to the Library and wait. http://www.galciv.com/library.asp?cmd=UPLOAD

GCWriter by default will create a "MYitem.item" file in the GC data directory, which is where it needs to be to get included into your own game. So if you made an event, it's in a file called "MyEvent.Event" (unless you renamed it already) and it will come up in your game eventually.

Hey Ray.....tried to upload....everything was in the wrong format. Pic has to be JPG but GalCiv Writer requires PCX. Are you willing to hold my hand on this one? :notsure:

I would love to help but I'm not a modder nor did I ever use H5O's tool.

I'm sure H50 would help you once he sees this thread.
There are other modders on this board who would know.

I had this problem too when I first started modding with images. You also have to switch the pcx to 256 colors and it has to be certain size. Are you making the image for an anomaly or for an event?

I'm swiping an event pic for another event.

Ok Chuck1es
First make event, anomaly etc.. with galciv writer.

To do pictures you need a program such as adobe photoshop or the one I use Graphic Workshop Professional(download at CNET) to convert picture to a .pcx format. The pcx picture must have these size and color requirements.
An event pcx should be 640 x 360 and an anomaly should be 250 x 180 size. The colors are set to 8 bits and 256 colors.

The jpg is for the picture displayed on the library page where you download new events from on the galciv site. The pcx picture is for the game itself.
Don't get these two mixed up because when displayed in the game a jpg or wrong size and color palette will display improperly or not at all and be washed out.

Next you need either winzip(preferred) or winrar(not preferred) to zip the event and picture to an archive. Add a note about what you have included with notepad and save.Add this as well to your zipped archive.
You should have the event file, pcx file and your note all zipped into the same archive.
Next goto upload link and name your event, add the jpg picture on second line and then your zipped archive onto third line.Add a note about what the event is at bottom and hit the upload key.Thats it.
Someone will review your event and if not to unbalancing or too much advantage for player, then it will get added to the library.Sometimes could be couple weeks before its added though.

Good luck

Also please note that if you are using someone else's artwork, you really need to get the artist's permission to use it before you upload it to the world at large.
