What is an independent player to do??

I have owned GalCiv since it was released and played about 15 games though I have never submitted to Metaverse. I am now interested in joining an empire but have no idea which one to choose. The two that have caught my attention the most are Midwest and GROSS. I am from Ohio so midwest peeked my interest but am also very evil and GROSS seems to nurture that aspect.

I guess it is just hard to choose with so many cool empires out there. Any ideas? Is anyone else having this problem or am I just taking this choice too seriously? >:(

Copernicus of-course you're biased. By-the-way, is that a flag of the Rising Half-Sun?

Bigman2013 are you an Aussie, a Kiwi, ever travelled to Australasia or thought about travelling to Australasia or indeed the Southern Hemisphere? If so, you could be a member of the ANZACs. You may not get the humour or even spell correctly, but no matter. I suspect you've got more chance of bathing in the sun of success than with the Empires you've nominated. (I assume Pontius is having a night off today.) ;)

It's a flag from the future Christopher. The sun setting on their empire.

Bigman why fight it. Join G.R.O.S.S. You know you want to. It's the coolest empire in the metaverse. No one has what we have.

The Cool Taglines, The freedom to be all you can be without cockamamie poppycock Goody Goody junk requiring you to churn out game after game of certain types and no stupit empire politics. None of this each country gets a Senator junk. Our requirements are simple 5 evil submissions equal guaranteed. There are other ways too.

Christopher: Did I mention how good Misty Hymen looks in her swimsuit? It's morning back here in the states. Having some left over Kentucky Fried Drengin for Breakfast.

Actually, the flag is a representation of the artwork of the famous Midwestern modern artist, Johnson Polak. He was drawn to the simplicity, grace, and powerful symbolism of the semicircle, and performed his craft all over the region (you've probably heard of the "crop semi-circles" that were appearing all over this region). Unfortunately, he passed away recently from injuries sustained in an unfortunate incident with drop bears during a trip to Australia...

Dang that time difference. I should realise, because I've rung EBWorld in the States from here at midnight often enough. By-the-way, ANZACs are about to roll the Lap Poodles any day now. *Cough*

In the long run, the non-regional Empires will get the upper hand, so be on the side of the Winners, and join G.R.O.S.S.! :)

Reading the remarks by Mike Hussey, do many of you feel that way? Are there a lot of players that enjoy not being part of an empire?

I guess it is kind of like joining a frat. There are those who are into it and those who are not. Maybe we could form an empire for those of us who do not want to be in an empire... :)

What would you call it. Hmm.. The Non-Aligned Player Empire....The Mis-aligned Player Empire...The NonConformist Conglamorate. Wait if you don't want to be in an Empire should you create your own. Ouch my brain hurts. Any second now I am going to run into a time paradox. ;)

Its kind of like the atheist's that have a church. It makes no sense but they do it anyways.

Maybe call it the moderate cult of neutrality.

The Un-empire?

Join one or dont, it's only a game.

The only purpose of the empires is so that those of us at work can be engaged while not actually playing the game.

You could call it the League of Independent Players. But note that Leagues of Independent Anythings rarely do well. :p

League of Independent Neutral Terrans?

Grouping on Non-Aligned Tolerant Souls?

Neutral Independent League?

Well, I see too many circuses on the Metaverse with only a ring master and no performers. The way I see it, one can stroke his ego alone or go and make a difference with someone else. Maybe if more of these one person empires tried to actively recruit and organize then we could see some real action.

We at G.R.O.S.S. see your choices as only two. Join us and be part of the G.R.O.S.S. steamroller. Or Choose to be steamrolled G.R.O.S.S. roadkill. Let the choice be yours. Now come on and join us and save yourself the aggrevation. You know you want to.

P.S. We're a lot more fun.

Lets see. Hmmm a name for independents...

The League of we're gonna be crushed like a bug by all those around us so we're forced to collaberate with everyone anyway and never remain truly independent empire.

You see how GROSS is much more catchy a name?

And for those looking for a change of pace, there's always the relaxed environment of the Happy Fun Ball empire... ;)

Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.

Hi, BiffMan.

I wouldn´t dream of taunting Happy Fun Ball; it´s absolutely gross (and I mean that as a compliment).

Now to our offer: Join us as a Senator, and convince your members to join us as members, and together we will take over the Metaverse! And we will mass-produce Happy Fun Balls, and sell them to th other Empires, to be sure. :d

But even more than that, with the MWC at least there's a sense of belonging. Ya know, we regionalists are so exclusionary, unless of course, you're in the region. ;)

Hmmmm.... I grew up in Huber Heights Ohio....does that count me as being a midwesterner even though I currently live in Northern California (which I submit to you is a whole different state than southern)?

In any case, I'm just a magnificent bastard that doesn't exactly want to be part of Gross...hmmm

Oh force: who wouldn't want to be a part of Get Rid Of Slimy alienS? Did you not ever read and love Calvin and Hobbes? If so you'd understand the reference. I'm shocked. ? We're the laughingest happy go lucky empire in the place. Look at all your evil submissions. You already qualify for senatorship. It's a perfect fit.!!

Where are you in Northern California? I used to live there. Sacramento area. You belong with us. You know you want to be a part of G.R.O.S.S. You know you love alien Carnage. Stop fighting yourself and join.

But even more than that, with the MWC at least there's a sense of belonging.

Belonging? Tell me. How does one from Ventura California Belong? Hmmmm. You yourself were approving of the merge. That tells me you didn't feel that midwestern mythical sense of "belonging." Yet, there were too many in both empires unwilling. Looks like you "belong" with us Idle.

As to "belonging" Tell me. Do you really belong with someone who claimed we actually merged then we kicked you out in a different thread when he knew we didn't? Is that the kind of "Belonging" you're talking about? Now I know they don't put up with that kind of thing in either the Midwest or California.

Oh and don't bother with a witty response. We both will know you're only fooling yourself. Throw off the oppression of Surther: Free your inner Alien Crusher!!!
