Bug Reports for 1.05 (put expansion pack bug reports in the other thread)

Bug Reports for 1.05 (put expansion pack bug reports in the other thread)

If you have bugs in Gal Civ to report in version 1.05, you can post them here.  Hopefully it'll keep both bug report threads a little cleaner. :)

v1.05. The date in the upper-left RARELY matches the actual date of the game. This bug has appeared since I bought the game. Start a new game... say DONE on everything. Click TURN button. No date change. Did the turn take effect? I quit playing the game because of this bug! I NEVER know if my turn took effect or not. Sometimes the date lags behind the actual date. In other words, the date will change, but then you'll click somewhere in the window, and the date will change AGAIN... without clicking the turn button! Very disappointing. Are they even working on this bug?
End of quote

I noticed this in the demo too. It seems that the turn date don't change until you move a ship, then it updates the turn number. it's like clicking end turn is actually "almost end turn". it doesn't seem to have any effect on the actual game play, just a confusing minor bug.

#1 I was being sadistic and i built terror stars next to everyones stars.... anyways, i noticed some of my terrors had 10/1 moves or 7/1 moves. I think it only happened on the terrors i had other ships stacked with on guard mode.

Is it possible that there were plus or minus movement enhancements on SBs in the sector? (referring to the 10 vs 7)

Don't know if anyone else has this "problem", or if it has been reported anywhere. For the I-League description it says "String not found". I tried reloading the bonus pak and it didn't make any difference.

The terror star bug is known, and involves fleets.  I haven't fixed it yet because most people like that bug and I've had more annoying ones to squish. :)

I've already fixed the problem with the date not updating correctly in the expansion pack.

Finally found the error causing the string not found in the I League report.

You didn't? Hmm, I tested fleeting TS with ships in the Beta and the TS remained at 1 move so I thought it was fixed. I've go test it again.

Dont have any past experience with this one...but when I tried to follow the advice now it didnt seem to work.

Well, part of the reason that I haven't fixed it yet is that I've had had a hard time reproducing it whenever I've sat down and tried.  If someone has a surefire way to reproduce it, I'd appreciate it if they'd e-mail me the exact sequence.

I keep getting random ctd, usually happens a while into the game, has only happened once in first few years of game time. As the game goes on they increase in frequency, in the game I am in currently it happens every 5-10 turns. I am not using my own play list so that is not the problem.

"Active Gov overrides projects: off"
appears to be broken. The gov will still replace social projects if you alter the priority list.

professorjumbo: please install SmartException from the Free Stuff tab in Stardock Central.  If it is running when GC crashes, it will create a crash log called GalCiv.exe.cra, which you can then send to me.

couslee: I fixed that bug on our end; some test code introduced when we overhauled the governor screen wans't removed. It'll be fixed in the expansion pack.

Here's the odd one out. I set my sliders so that some research should pop out next turn. Save, click Turn. Sometimes the Tech does not come thru. OK, I reload, up the research slider little higher, hit Turn. Sometimes this sequence of steps hangs the game (no CTD, just hang).

Andreas: when you say that it doesn't come through, is it not finishing, or is it completing without popping up the robot screen?

I meant it didnt finish that turn. Usually the estimate is much better after reload though. However, later on, even that is not accurate any longer. Also, in genral this behaviour happens more and more later on in the game. At the start its all very accurate still. I can provide a list of the usual funny ones if needed.

The one tech that does not seem to have announcement is Xeno Propaganda.

not sure if this has been mentioned, but I have been able to consistantly re-create a CTD. If you are fishing for colonization events, and get one you want to keep, you then destroy the colony. here is the order I use to re-create it.
Load a colony ship with 1m.
Save game
Colonize a low PQ planet
Choose the best +alingment I can get. (cheezy reloading for the test)
Destroy the colony.
Save the game.
hit end turn, and you get a CTD, usually when you get the news box. Does not re-peat when you reload the last save and hit end turn.

michael haxton and CariElf,

I am having the same problem as you michael. The game worked perfectly for the first few games. Then as I started to up the map size and thus the game length, Ive started to get random CTD's. The further into the game I get, the more often they happen. Same as you I believe. Sometimes I will save, hit end-turn, and then CTD. When I reload the game I will occasionally get another CTD as soon as I try to hit end-turn again. But not always. Usually I will try and change something about the game, like do another trade, and then save and hit end-turn and it will now work. I am programmer by profession and am thus very used to debugging. I will try to ascertain a more definitive pattern for you and then post again. Right now, I know for sure that it is related to being later into the game and is also probably related to map size. Im guessing on the map size but am doing so because my hunch is that it has to do with the AMOUNT of data stored. In late game on larger maps there is a lot more ship and planet info to store and since thats when Im getting CTD's I can only conclude that the too are related. Like I said, I will post more when I know more.

thanks,
Joe

P.S. Carielf mentioned something about michael emailing him a file. If you can tell me where to find this file then I will give you mine as well.

Hello,
I have a strange bug as well. It has happened a few times. Late (May 2116) in a gigantic game, tight clusters, uncommon planets, the 'spend rate' slider in Domestic policy screen stops working. No matter what percentage I set, it stays on a value (usually resulting in a negative net income). As the rounds go by, I go below -500 and all building/research stops.

Can't fix it. Can still control tax rate, but not spend rate.

I have a save game showing this problem, and can send it in if tell me where to send it.

Thanks,

Spuzmax

WileyCoyote, please install SmartException from the FreeStuff tab in Stardock Central.  If you have it running, it will create a crash log when Gal Civ crashes.  The file will be called GalCiv.exe.cra and you can e-mail it to me at [email protected].  You also may want to check for updated video and sound drivers as sometimes conflicts with these can cause crashes in Gal Civ, and earlier versions of DirectX 9.0 were buggy, so if you don't have at least 9.0a, you will want to upgrade to DirectX9.0b.  In your e-mail, please mention if you have windvd, winamp, or media players other than Windows Media Player installed on your system.

Spuzmax, can you please e-mail the save game to me? I'll need both the .sav file and the corresponding folder.

Has anyone seen this error? If so does anyone know if it'll be fixed in the upcoming 1.1?

When you are on the trade screen scroll down a bit in your techs and then click to select them as trade items. Do it fast a few times and the scrollbar disappears and you can't get back to the items above until you remove enough items from the trade window to trigger a scrollbar.

Has anyone seen this bug? How can an AI who has a -9800 bank be able to tribute to me 30/4 turns as a bribe. For that matter, I've also seen it happen where ALL races major and minor are bankrupt (-3k or more) with hardly a ship besides their survey ship be able to come up with transports and freighters? I had one AI that was -6800 in the bank with one planet remaining. He had a population of about 1.6B and he somehow came up with 1 transport/turn for the next 6 turns and he used them to dump 1/2 his population onto it. 800M turn 1, 400M turn 2, 200M turn 3, 100M turn 4, 50M turn 5, 25M turn 6. I blew them all up with my Hero survey ship and invaded with 1B troop on turn 7.

Ya ive seen this a bunch. The little arrows for the scrollbar will disappear. I can usually fix it by grabbing the little cirle part and moving it some. Darned annoying though. Ive also seen errors in the scrolling of the govenors list of projects. Its gets all screwed once the on screen part is full. I believe that ones been mentioned already though.

I dont know if anyone has mentioned the fact that there are a number of descriptions of social projects that are hosed. Espcially for the wonders and trade goods. One of them says "Will increase your influence by 123712987491pts". Somehting like that. This is when you click on the '?' to get a more detailed description of the project.

Some of the sliders can be darned annoying to. Take colony ships. When you launch them all you get is a slider to determine what they launch with. Problem is, slider positions are based on a percentage of the total. So if you have a pop of 40b, the first slider position is at like 3b. What if you want to put out one with just 200m people? Click click click click click....oh forget it. Their should be a textbox included with the slider to were you can enter the # you want. Same for pretty much all the sliders in the game.

Another bug IMO: When you have so much production or research that the symbols for it dont all fit in their designated bars. Last night I was playing as technologists with additional bonuses to reasearh. I had 3 or 4 research resources and all the appropriate wonders. At about 65% spending with 50% allocated to reasearch, earth was putting out over 3000 research units. Approx 2700 were "free". The little research icons were all the way down into the project description panel. This is a bug in my opinion. Simply need another kind of Icon to denote units of 50 and or 100, 500, etc.

Another bug :). On occasion, I will have one my units selected but will want to check the stats on an enemy unit. So, I will of course click on the enemy unit. A lot of times (not all), I will get brnt-ernt sound and it will refocus me on MY ship. So basically I cant click on the other one. Very very annoying.

I had similar problems with the Governor sliders. If you put too many projects in there, the list starts behaving funny, and you basically have to reset and re-create it from scratch. Anyway, the Governor idea itself is great, but because the UI behaves quirky in places, and how it sometimes does things you didnt want, I for one havent been able really to trust and use it.

By the way RE DOCUMENTATION, or the UI even. It would be great to mention in big letters that if you change project mid-way through, that investment is not wasted, and when you come back to it you can continue from where you were. I somehow missed that key point for a very long time. Still wondering if the same is true for Research also?

Andreas, you're correct about the social projects picking up where you left off. It is, however, inconsistant with what the military queue does. It just applies the production points to whatever you choose. So after the colony rush I place all my military items on constructors, but if I need a frigate, I just change to it and it applies all those points. You'd think they'd handle it one way or the other for BOTH.

I got the UP voting event that said everyone had to use imperial govt for 5 years one turn before I got Star Federation tech. The next turn it asked me if I wanted a Star Federation, and it did.
