Unable to install DeskScapes 2026

Subject: Solved: DeskScapes 2026 Installation Freeze / Object Desktop Error 805306369
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a solution in case anyone else encounters this issue while installing DeskScapes 2026.
The Problem:
During installation via the Object Desktop application, the installer would freeze/hang on DeskscapesConfig.exe before crashing or showing a "Not Responding" error. Object Desktop also displayed a red banner at the bottom with Problem Code: 805306369.
The Fix:
This issue is caused by Windows Defender blocking the configuration executable. I successfully resolved it by temporarily turning off Real-Time Protection in Windows Defender. Once disabled, the installation completed without any issues.
(Note: Don't forget to turn your Real-Time Protection back on after the installation finishes!)
Hopefully, this helps anyone else stuck on this specific error code!

Thanks for writing this up with the executable in it. Problem code 805306369 on its own is nearly unsearchable, and DeskscapesConfig.exe is the detail that will bring the next person to this thread.

One thing worth watching for now that Real-Time Protection is back on. Neil Banfield's explanation on a separate report of images not rendering was that antivirus can lock access to a file for scanning at the moment DeskScapes goes to load it, and the symptom there is mini previews coming up blank.

If that turns up, close and pick the image again from the installed backgrounds page before assuming the install went wrong.

And if the installer ever stalls in the same spot again, an exclusion for that one executable is a narrower fix than dropping real-time protection for the whole install.
