Removing Backgrouds

Remove without deleting file

So, when setting up DeskScapes 11, I accidentally checked the "Videos" folder in the settings and clicked OK without realizing it. I rectified it, but the damage has been done. ALL of my videos, my TV show, my entire media library has been added to DeskScapes under the "Installed" tab.  Imagine my surprise when I went to remove them, and there was only one option "Delete Background", which thankfully I tested with one file. DeskScapes DELETED the original file, permanently. Did not send it to the Recycle Bin and it is unable to be recovered through file recovery. How can I remove these files from DeskScapes without deleting the file? It seems rather asinine that there isn't a simple way to remove something that was added through an automated process!

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Have you tried delete the save folder via the setting. Refer screenshot below.

Just to be safe, add a folder with some videos in it that you can delete. Than close the setting. Reopen the setting, select that recently added folder. Delete it by clicking on that "Delete" button (refer screenshot below), check with File explorer. if the folder actually delete off. I did this test on my system and I see that the actual file was not deleted from its physical location, just it was removed from Deskscape list.

Thanks

You can't delete the videos folder from that list. I unchecked it, but it didn't remove the files in the "Recently Installed" area of the installed backgrounds area. The only way to remove them from there is to use "Detele Background", which is what permanently deleted the file. I DO NOT want these files in that list. We're talking hundreds of files that got added and are there under the Recently Installed areal. And I apologize, I thought I had posted this in the DreamScapes forum. If you want I will repost over there.

Use windows commands to move them to your desired folder.  So go to folder where all your media library is and use Ctrl A to select all, Ctrl C to copy them, and finally go to your desired media library folder and use Ctrl V to paste them in the correct folder.  Once you are satisfied, they are once again safe, you can safely delete them from Deskscapes.

Note you may have to sort them first to not copy the dream files.

This is what I would do.

Yes, I believe, what BigDogBigFeet is the way to go. I don't usually put my videos inside This PC >Video folder.

They were already in the correct directory, set up exactly like I wanted them.  So, the solution is to move nearly 1,000 files to a new directory (which will require my media server to be redirected among a number of other programs) and then go through Deskscapes and remove the files manually. Which, by the way, has to be done ONE AT A TIME, otherwise the program freezes up trying trying to open the options menu. Why isn't there an option to "Clear recently installed list" or something logical like being able to remove just the listing in DeskScapes?! At this moment I'd settle for the files to be deleted to the Recycle Bin, then I could do a batch restore!  Oh, and I tried a purge and reinstall, just to see. I was wrong, I did not activate the video folder. It is selected by default. This means that anyone who installs this program will have their entire video library imported automatically.

My other big question is why is this happening now?  This did not happen when I used the Beta version. Though that version had some other serious issues that I haven't been able to test if they have been fixed. I honestly have little hope that they have. I love Fences and Start 11, but this program is really, really BAD.

Okay I have a couple of questions.  Your first post said Deskscapes moved and deleted the originals.  I've never seen Deskscapes do that by simply selecting the Videos folder in Deskscapes.  If they are gone then yes recover them to the folder where you want them.  I would do this just to protect what I had.  Second just remove the file from the video folder that contains your Video files if you do not want them there.

When I configure Deskscapes I see this:

I cannot directly add any files to them.  Windows commands or other programs would do that.

If my comments don't help well at least I tried.

Sorry if I was uncler. No, they were not moved. They were originally stored in the video folder, which is one of the selected library folders for DeskScapes when you install it. Mine looks just like yours when I install it. All I know is that when I went to look at my installed dreams, from what I can tell (I only went a few hundred files deep) my entire media library was imported, and was listed in the "Recently Installed" section. This happened after I got a notification that DeskScapes was importing my files from my library folder. I've never seen this happen either in the Beta. My frustration comes from the fact that there's no easy way to remove them without deleting the files, and I lost a few videos because of the unrecoverable deletion that DeskScapes does when you delete it.

I guess I'll just have to live with it, or go with a competing program. I'll be working on it some more tonight, with a fresh install of the program. We'll see what happens.

So... FEATURE REQUEST:  1) A way to either a) clear the recently installed list, b) remove backgrounds without deleting the file, or c) a setting to send deleted files to the recycle bin instead of permanent deletion (this should honestly be the default), 2) a confirmation dialogue where you have to manually confirm the import of files from the pre-selected library directories, or 3) an automatic purge of backgrounds from DeskScapes (without file deletion) when you deselect a folder from being included in the library.

I have forwarded your issue to Support and please wait for their input on your issue. As a user myself. I don't use my Video library directly for my Deskscape. Instead, I use Deskscape playlist. With playlist I can choose which video or static wallpaper show up on my screen and more flexibility to pick different set of video or static wallpaper appear on different monitors. And the Infopanel also is in there. So I can load anything inside my video folders. I just pick and choose via my playlist.

Thank you,

Okay I understand better now.  One possible solution would be to create a new folder under documents and call it maybe My Video Library.  Using Windows commands, you could go to your current Video Folder Use Ctrl_A to select All, then Ctrl X to move them, then navigate to the new folder and press Ctrl V to paste them.  They would then be removed from The Video Folder and Deskcapes too and you would have them still for yourself.

It's a workaround that just might work for you.  I don't have anything in my Videos Folder and often do not use standard Windows folders like pictures etc. to prevent One Drive from bloating and hounding me to "upgrade" my drive capacity.

It's like 365 and One drive wants to be a hardware/software extension that requires "upgrading" and thus annual costs to MS.  No thanks. End soapbox.

I should have done this earlier, but here is the part that is causing the problem. Where ever there are Recent Backgrounds, my files showed up. I don't want them as part of this program, I don't need them as part of this program. I have blurred them because, as I said, these are my personal files.

I shouldn't have to redesign my system of doing things because yours automatically decides to import the ENTIRE Video and Photo directories into the program as the DEFAULT install option.

And on another note... How do you stop the program from running? Close the window and you still have the Taskbar service. Right click on that and... no exit?!  And don't give me the "Use the ? to close it" because there isn't one. Do I REALLY have to use the task manager to end the process if I want to close DeskScapes?!

Have you tried to uncheck "Show DeskScapes icon in the system tray" in Settings?
