giving away a subscription to wincustomize.com

giving away a subscription to wincustomize.com

I have asked an administrator here if I could do this... no answer to my email yet so I figured I would get it started.
I am wanting to give my subscription of wincustomize.com to someone here who can't afford it.
I am using the honesty program here so please don't ask if you make more than 20,000.00 US Dollars a year, or if you live at home with your parents that make more than 20,000.00 US Dollars a year, or your parents are giving you an allowance and sending you to college.
If you fall somewhere below that catagory and really want the subscription which is good for almost 2 years... give or take a month I think.... and Jafo returns my email without sarcasm and/or locking the thread, then let me know here. We will decide who will receive it if it is possible. If, due to pride or whatever, you wish to remain completely anonymous then you can email me at [email protected] or you could email Jafo here.

So don't try to make it look like I was trying to pass some commercial work as my own or something.

Nowhere was/is that the case.

Refunds are usually given if the product is faulty... not if there are problems with the sales people.
The product here wasn't faulty... and I would rather not be refunded, even if that were possible which I doubt.
But, as a paid subscriber, I would also think that instead of wincustomize just revoking my access to this site as they suggest that they would allow the paid subscription to continue with someone else as owner.

Contact [email protected] [T-Man]
He will be able to answer that.
There's your one answer to your one question.

Thank you! If you would have given that information out sooner...
instead of redundant responses.
Oh well... waiting for a real decision on this.

Redundant responses are a product of obscure communication.

You are 'paid to be an a$$hole' [your words], but I am not paid to be at your beck and call.

Had you bothered to look in the 'About' section at left you would see this.....

  • Frogboy   (Moderation)
  • Jafo   (Moderation)
  • KarmaGirl   (Moderation)
  • T-Man   (Account Information, WebsiteTechnical Issues)

Now...the bit you are interested in is the last entry, as it's alphabetical, and 'T' comes after 'J'....and the salient phrase is 'Account Information'....

And if you had read my first post in this thread... I asked an administrator if I could do this... email sent yesterday... no response.
That email wasn't necessarily sent to you.

Bah. Giving the subscription away would be passing the apps to someone who didn't pay for them. It wouldn't be like handing my Photoshop CD to someone, it would be like copying it and handing it to someone. This is a no-brainer.

Something like Poll answer # 6 No, why pay when you get download it for free?
Most people here polled that way on music.
Part of the double standards I see all over the place these days.

I should be able to give a subscription as a gift... especially when I have none of the applications that come with this subscription loaded on my computer

Jeez... more talk about double standards. And I thought we already talked about that?

I answered #4....as no other option was suitable.

Double standards may exist in the minds/morals of some site members, but definitely NOT in this site's administration.

I received it, though...but as per my previous email, I told you I'd expended sufficient of my unpaid time dealing with you one-on-one and was, as I put it in that email sufficient communication has transpired to resolve this, and am loathe to expend any further time. There's 720,000 other site members to consider.'

Now I'm stuck here ensuring truth does not become the first casualty, as always.

Not that this post is about EULA but if he is not using it anymore and give is to someone else how is that against anything?

It is still paid for and he would no longer have download privileges under buying said product.

The new person would have it.

Same account, new owner
Old owner has nothing (No copies no anything)

Technically the only thing I see here as a problem is that does he delete all said software on his computer before giving away the account.

Since he is talking about w years I assume this is the WinCustomize browser app.

For me, I wouldn't want to smurf away my stuff because of a smurfin thread.

What the smurf is that about?

"how is that against anything?"

No *longer* have download privledges. He downloaded the apps, he gives his subscription to someone else, and now they will have the right to do the same without paying. How is that different than giving an unauthorized copy to someone?

You can't assume he'll just delete the software from his system.

Well if he is really unhappy he will do that.

Yes I see your point Bakerstreet, Stardock has no reason to 'trust' that he will delete the software or be able to check.

But he did say 2 years so I wonder why he said that? Sounds like the skin browser.
Doesn't seem like he is unhappy with the software, he is just simply making a statement that he doesn't like the management. Had he said "WB sucks!" I would have been less apt to chime in, but this looks more like he just wants someone to get the goods without Stardock getting paid.

In this case, mfaccone wants to give away a service rather than software to another user. The service is unlimited ability to download skins and themes for two years minus the number of months of use he already has. The only software connected to a Wincustomize subscription is the browser which will not work with an expired subscription. Anyone can download the browser, it just doesn't do anything until you enter a serial number for a non-expired subscription. When the subscription expires, the browser does nothing until the subscriber renews his subscription. I feel that if a user can give the remainder of his subscription to another user, then that user uses a month of it and gives the remainder to another user and so on, then there is no money coming to the site needed to pay for all the network usage. This is a problem especially if each user does not have any Stardock products and uses the subscription until he has downloaded more than the download cap on non-Stardock customers/non-subscribers before passing the subscription on to another user.

Powered by SkinBrowser!

Please remember that the company that sold you the product is Stardock.  That being said, Stardock's EULA does *not* allow the transfer of any of our products.  Once you have downloaded it and it is functioning, it's yours.  Please keep in mind that the messageboards do not effect a subscription.  The main point of the subscription is unlimited downloads on the site, as well as access to two premium skin packs and a browsing tool.

So, in short, the "official" word is- you can't transfer your license.  It would have been better to have gotten an answer from Stardock before posting this thread.  (Remember, your credit card statement has our name and phone number connected to the charge for your subscription).

Then seeing how that is the "official" word, I am sorry to have put hopes in the minds of a couple people here. Please delete my account from your site and from your records. Please delete my subscription information as well.

Just wanting Wincustomize to give let someone continue to use what was already paid in full. That being a service.
I am taking what I experienced here as the way they do business all around. That said, I will no longer be an advocate or a user or a customer of stardock products or anything related to wincustomize administration

Please delete my account from your site and from your records. Please delete my subscription information as well.

Are you sure you want that?  Once that is done, you won't be able to log in.  You also won't be able to change your mind.  I would suggest just not using it if you don't want it.  you may change your mind and decide that you want to download something.  If I delete your account (which will not delete your sales record) you will not even be able to log in to the site.

I am sorry that you are being so negative about this, but we are a software company, and we do have EULA just like all software companies do.

As far as subscription info, that is a matter of company record tracking licensing I would think. The WinC account is one thing, but any Stardock product or WinCustomize Browser serial information *is or should be* corporate property and official records.

It is also one of the means to keep track of registered verse pirated serial number registration, so...

mfaccone, sorry for you that your deciding upon going this route but I am sure you've made up your mind.
