What a crock! When I was teenager, and wanted to further my understanding of man, the first thing I did was study all the major religions (Wicca included!). And if there is one commonality that all of them share, its a higher form of morality and code of ethics to which to live by (Wicca included!). The major problem with most religions however, is that fact many practitioners believe their religion is the ONLY religion and anyone who follows another religion is blasphemus! Now I don't have an affinity for any mainstream religion, so I hope that I can judge this person fairly when I say that this person only shows how bad a religion can get! I have seen both Harry Potter movies numerous times and the only thing here that I can see is good triumphing over evil. If you ask me, the only people that should have a problem with that is Satan worshipers!

I wanted to add that if Harry Potter is evil, why in the books and the movies do they celebrate Christmas and Easter?

Just a kids story, and good ones at that!

What was the holiday celebrated by Jesus and the Apostles at the Last Supper? Passover. Look at Da Vinci's famous picture and you will see them reclining at Seder meal, just as Jews have done for millenia. No tree, no reindeer, just the traditional Seder meal with matzo.

So, evidently you don't need to celebrate Christmas to be good.

I was just trying to mainly point out that if Harry Potter is evil, what about other works and why are they not picked on?

Argh, I'm sssooo tired of the people who put down Harry Potter, call the books evil, claim it promotes "witchcraft," yadda yadda yadda. The total irony is that the majority of the people doing the whining and complaining have never even read the books. >

My mother is 74 years old and grew up on the Wizard of Oz books. They were her favorite books as a child...she had them all, and read them all more than once. They are such precious memories of her childhood for her that a few years ago, I bought her a brand new set of every book in the series. And she read them all, all over again. I think it was one of the best Christmas presents I ever gave her.

But did she grow up to be a witch? Did she grow up thinking she could be either Glinda the good witch, or the Wicked Witch of the West? Did she grow up believing that magic existed, that Oz and Munchkinland were real, that if she clicked her heels 3 times she could go anywhere she wanted? Heck no. So why are people so convinced that this generation of children that's growing up with Harry Potter is going to end up being Satan worshippers or something? Geez, give kids more credit than that.

I just love the fact that the Harry Potter books have gotten kids interested in reading again. I've been an avid reader since before I headed off to grammar school, and I still read as much as I can today. As a matter of fact, I just finished The Order of the Phoenix last week, and it was the best Harry Potter book yet. If only those hysterics who are criticizing the books would just relax and read them...they'd see that Harry is a good kid (although definitely going through the typical teenage brattiness in the latest book), a good role model, and there are themes of loyalty, fidelity, belief in one's self, honor, friendship, and self-sacrifice running throughout all the books. So what if the kids wave wands, learn charms, and fly on brooms? In the end, it's just a series of books, albeit very entertaining and fun. And the movies so far have also been just terrific, especially The Chamber of Secrets.

People have some nerve calling Harry Potter books evil, it is just fantasy for children, and some adults hehehe It's hard enough to get them interested in reading as it is, when you finally get a book children want to read without your intervention, people complain

Next they will tell you rings are evil...better watch out for those wraiths if you wear a ring...especially a solid gold one. This is one of the things I hate about such a diverse planet...you're gonna have those neurotic nutcases that nitpick the tiniest of detail and exploit it for their own recognition. You shoot people in video games...you will turn out a killer...read Harry Potter and you're gonna be a witch. Why do these people waste the time, money and effort to do these things...I will never know.

Potter isn't even remotely evil (or even marginally bad) by any rational definition.

The personal qualities exemplified by Harry Potter and his friends are the kind of personal qualities that should be instilled in every person, courage, loyalty, honesty, and even a little bending of the rules where necessary .

Pretty much the only people who are opposed to something like Potter are those people who are deathly afraid of anything that teaches children to think for themselves and question what they learn (both very vital parts of growth). Such people are only interested in indoctrinating children rather than teaching them, and that's pretty sad.

Yeah, I know it's a bit of a generalization about these types of people, but I can't imagine anyone who isn't already a bit whacko actually believing that Potter, et.al. is evil.

Sure it has evil in it. It's called He who must not be named.

Same time like others said, lots of morals in it, and encouraging kids to read is never evil.

Unless you are part of a repressive goverment that's trying to supress information in order to hold on the power.

Sometimes I think Christians just lose focus and become too self-righteous, and then they pick apart the most popular worldly thing. Right now, its Harry Potter. Tommorrow, its something else.
