Kona, Windows 2000 should run fine on your system, though you might need to add 128 so it is 256 on the ram. I ran it on my PII 266 Compaq years back and it worked great, had to hunt down drivers but it wasn't hard to do...

Also you can install a 20 - 40 gig drive which wouldn't set you back to much. You could also pull it fi you see the laptop later and install it in the new one you get and put the old drive back in....

I agree with IPlural. Win2000 might be a good idea, it is *sort of* the equivalent of ME using the NT core. More stable, see? I am not sure if you can run the Services.msc snap-in on it, I have never gotten too in-depth with that OS. However, there is no activation like in XP, and it uses less memory, too. (No stupid Luna interface - ahhh, WB) If you don't want to put any more money into that system, a new PC might be the best thing (after your bike, of course ) If you wan't to get away from Intel, look at ABSPC.com. They are a lot better than Dells, I have found, just as customizable, and you can get Athlons in them (costs less!). Just a thought, and personally, I am surprised 98 runs so nicely WITH WindowBlinds and IconPackager! You must have done a good job with the resource tweaking. Please telll me how ya did it, that kind of stuff interests me too because I manage Win98 machines.

Xendre64, i'm running WB 3.51, + WFX 1.21 + IconPackager + ObjectBar + Tab LauchPad + other softs like firewall, antivirus, etc ... and all of that is running fairly well under my WIN98 system leaving enough system resources (about 70%) and GDI resources (about 85 %)

N.B: and i agree with you, Windows 2000 should probably the best OS Microsoft did ...

Zodiac... I said I tried XP on this machine. I installed it, It took 5 minutes to boot, so I uninstalled it. Sorry for the confusion.

Windows 2000 is out of the question. If I am goning to spend that kind of money on a OS I might as well get a box XP.

I forgot that Dell only does Intel so I am looking elsewhere for My PC. It must be a AMD machine. Compaq and Emachines have a few for 400 bucks with DVD, 256 DDR, CR-RW, 40 Gig and all that so I will look into those then I will sell this POS Dell Laptop.

Pleae help me to reslove the following problem. I downloaded iconpackager 2/0 from CNET download. Thereafter, I proceeded to download "Toy" icons. Whenit fownloaded the file has unzipped. Instead of having them as icons, I have those icons appearing as as small pictures, and nothign else. I use windows xp. Please help me to relove the problem, because I can't do anything with them , they look like pictures, and not installed in icon packager software.

Please help me to resolve the following problem.

I have installed Icon Packager from CNET download. Now, I clicked to download icons from wincustomize website. My favorite is "Toy" one. It did download, BUT when file was unzipped instead of icons being saved in icon packager, it unzipped file opened as the pictures of icons. I don't know what to do, because they are not installed as a part asicon packager. I should be able to see " Toy Icon packager";s name in the icon packager list of files. Instead they are like small pictures scattered and they are nothing nut pictures of icons.
Please heklp. What should I do to get them installed correctly>

Kona, have you given any thought to building your own? For the money, you can get a much more powerful machine that way. It's not difficult if you can handle using a screwdriver.

Well, at home I have a Celeron 333 with 128 Megs of RAM.
I didn't know Stardock didn't support computers under 667 Mhz. 667 Mhz computers aren't that old, maybe 3 years or so. In the real world (not in the IT or design profession), people don't really upgrade before 4 or 5 years.

Good news for me though, my boss agreed to buy me a new personal computer around the year end. It'll probably be a Dell laptop (I do over two hours of train every day). Yeah!
