Buying Online

Buying Online

As some of you will already know, last week I purchased a 22" NEC-Mitsubishi monitor from an online retailer called 'ebuyer . com'.

After setting up the monitor, I discovered that there were slight, but noticeable geometry problems with the picture. As a graphic designer these problems are all the more intrusive, and as a result I wrote to the company to request a replacement. Here I am almost 4 days later, and no response as yet from them.

Unfortunately the site has done away with e-mail communication in favour of a system called 'eNotes' which, and I quote, will 'ensure you receive a speedy and effective response to your query'. Unfortunately, nobody seems to even read any eNotes relating to after-sales support.

After sending a sequence of increasingly desperate eNotes to them, and still receiving no reply, I decided to give them a call instead. In the absence of any e-mail contact address, this seems to be my only remaining option. However, the only support line is a 'premium rate' line which costs around 7p (about 11 cents) per minute. So I decided to do a Google search to find a normal business contact telephone number for them.

In the process of searching for a number, I came across this website: http://www.ebuyerdotcon.co.uk

I think the site tells you everything you need to know. I've now pretty much given up any hope of obtaining a fully-functioning monitor, or a refund of the £540 I paid for it.

Why am I telling you this? I don't want other people to make the same mistake that I, and all the other people with complaints on that site, made in buying expensive equipment from the company.

Live and learn.

Note: The opinions expressed here are mine and mine only. They are not connected to this site, and should be taken as a warning rather than an outright attack on the company.

I bought a Sony Triniton, 19 inch, about 3 years ago. That was suppose to be the top monitor at that time or close to it. It had a 1/2 inch black rim all the way around the picture. In other words, my 19 inch monitor was actually an 18.5 inch monitor you could say. To make a long story short, after going on line and checking things out, EVERY Sony Triniton 19 inch in that model had the same black rim. Not being a graphic artist like you, and because it did have a beautiful, clear picture, I just learned to live with it but for a 600 almost 700 dollar monitor I was very disappointed that it was not perfect. As it weighed 100 lbs (or it seemed), ended up selling it when I moved and got a 15 inch LCD Philips.

CRT's are very finicky about power "cleanness".  Line filtering helps.  Do you use a UPS?  Or, do you have a UPS?  If so, it will filter the noise out of the power and may correct it.  Where my husband works they had a huge problem when they upgraded their monitors and had to install power line filtering company wide (which was a huge expense since the corporation has 5,000+ seats).

I try to buy online from places that are already well established retail places in the real world. Although it can be a little more pricey I will normally use a place like futureshop.ca for computer/electronic stuff. If ever there is a problem they have a store just a few miles away and I can always get them to correct the problem there.

I have bought things online but through major players.

Dell
Stardock
Juno
Brinkster

This is why I am afraid of eBay. But I am going to give it a shot and buy/sell there

Hereing a story like this scares me allot. i want to buy these scale model die cast cars and I haven't done it yet until I do more investigation on the website.

I just ordered PS7 on monday from an online company, which I found thru bizrate.com. It was a leap of faith for me, but their price was pretty good and offered free shipping. I checked them out on BBB. Well, I *just* got my order delivered today! I thought it would take forever, but only 4 days! I've installed, and everything looks great! If anyone is interested in ordering software, the company is Vio Software (U.S. based).

Line conditioning could very well be the culprit as KaramaGirl points out.

Is it in seen in only certain resolutions?

This might sound silly, but if there are screws at the top, back them out an 1/8th turn across the top. See if they are to tight and squeezing the panel?

Also if it snaps together at the top, the boss and slots of the snaps might be such that it is causing a squeeze at the top.
