1.09[b].001 Bug Report Thread

Noticed that Northwest Smith has posted a beta bug in the old 1.04.59 bug report thread.

This should really get a new thread all by itself.

First, a bug I don't see mentioned already: The tech navigator only appears to recognize techs in GCTech.TECH when determining pre- and postrequisites. It can initially display any tech, it just can't navigate to ones from the bonus pach or from mods.

Now, reply to #25 BlueSteel:
After loading from a saved game.. My influence level drops dramatically
End of quote

This is normal. The game doesn't save current influence levels because the formula for computing influence is recursive and would require too much backdata to restart properly. Save games would probably triple in size and take three or four times as long to save and reload as they do now if the full influence data was saved. This also means that cultural victory conditions get reset if you save and reload a game.

Looks like a couple things are happening in the game that are diefinte bugs>

1. After about 15 upgrades to a star base it becomes invisible.

2. Also had Combat TRansports become invisible.

Restarting the game at that point ssems to cure the problem. Seems gommon in this thread.

The slider problem also occurs at random times.

Also the turn button does not function late in the game - it locks in a "pressed" state but you can still navagate the map and need to force a ship to move to get the game started again.

----------------
I had the same problem playing the game after I launched the game from Stardock site, my transports went invisible and the starbase when they got to the level of terror star went invisible too, I saved the gane and then left stardock and launched the game from my computer and everything that was invisible was visible, also the phonenix ships were invisible when playing the game from the stardock.

When negotiating trades for systems the hyperlink function appears to mess up the selected item pointers. e.g. right click on a system to view detail, then close that window and select (left click) a system. Then view info on two different systems in a row, then select a different system. It appears to have the most bugginess when the list only has scrollbar threshold +1 (i.e. if you select one item and the scrollbar disappears).

If I view a star system from the diplomacy map and then exit back to the main screen and go to the rally point editor, I sometimes see the diplomacy map instead of the rally point map. Not 100% of the time (approx 50%) and I'm still working on how to reproduce the bug 100% of the time.

This is different from the overflowing soldier bug (info warfare) and I like it a lot less. :D

When engaging in info warefare the ending pop numbers are sometimes way off from the predicted results. e.g. I attack with 10 billion troops, population is 37 billion. Morale is 43, info warfare predicted between 2.4 and 3.8 billion would join my cause. Advantage factor was 52 to 8. At the end of the war I have reportedly have 2.1 billion troops left. When I view the planet two turns later I have a pop of 830 million.

I have noticed that the load times have quadrupled literally) from before the beta. Same game that took ~1m to load now takes ~4m to load.

Apparent bug when absorbing a minor race.

Scenario:
Allies
Altarians Arceans
Altarians Me
Arceans Me
Altarians I-League
Arceans I-League

War:
Drengin Everybody
Yor Everybody
Carinoids, Jarkians, Sanderwhatever, and two other minor races Alliance members

In one turn do the following: Broker peace between the Arceans, Altarians, Me and the Drengin (get 5 systems from them leaving them with one) and the Yor. I then absorb the Carinoids, Jarkians, and Sanderwhatever (all at war with alliance members). They give me all planets and money in return for peace.

Hit turn button. Window pops up from the Altarians stating that since I'm at war with their ally the I-League they must honor their alliance and go to war with me. Identical message pops up from the Arceans.

I check and sure enough I'm now at war with my former alliance members and the I-League. I reload the game (saved just before I did all the diplomacy stuff) and duplicate all actions. Before I hit turn button I check and I have close relations with I-League. I form alliance with them, then hit turn. Exact same result.

I do not have the save game because I thought this was a feature (stinking backstabbing Altarians >:( )but a friend pointed out this could possible be an array bug resulting from the removal of the minor races from the at war list for the other alliance members).

Here is another one.

Sector with starbase, moved in transports and starfighters with no problem. Attacked orbit with starfighters, but when I tried to invade the planet with transports, I got the message 'The current position of the ship it out of range... etc...', which, of course, was not true, because of the starbase. Saving and re-loading worked though.

:SURPRISED:
found a neat little bug > seems to work at any time...
ready?

to gain 4+ trillion credits (? it's a lot of money ok...)

start creating a survey ship or some other ship that takes a lot of juice to create, with me? (jk) after about seven or more turns of doing the production thing click on the purchase button
(here's the tricky but fun part)

now with the purchase screen in still up click on the scout or something really cheap (has to be another ship ) and it'll give you the option of buying it for like -498239481298 or something in that area.

I played a gigantic abundant and never once taxed my people and spent everything i could (or wanted to) and didn't even scratch the surface of my very large galactic bank account. - it wasn't very challenging after that but hey!

that's what patches are for right?

And I almost forgot. I have noticed my turn button getting stuck too.

When this happens I just press 'enter' and it gets it un-stuck.
End of quote

I had this same problem, only problem I had on top of this is that I had no ships, at all. Not a single one. Therefore I was hung with the end turn selected and not moving. I had to end task galciv to finally 'fix' this.

Minor issue, and may not be specific to the beta.

The UP counsel voted to give transports an attack value of 10. Couple of issues:

1) Transports can attack ships in open space, but they cannot ships in orbit. I suspect there's some "it's a transport" logic that is checked before the invasion is attempted that just looks for defenders. That is, the transports are treated as an invasion force without going into the "combat" loop.

2) The AI's clearly have no clue what they voted for. (They are all normal intelligence). Again, I think they are treating them as transports and not considering their strength. This proposal was raised in the first or second UP meeting of the game, so these were AWESOME ships, and the AI had all of their transports (10/4) carefully avoid engaging my starfighters (4/1) -- which makes no sense at all.

I understand that it's a weird, special case logic situation, but perhaps the proposal should be removed, since the AI's end up voting to give the human player an advantage. (I doubt that their behavior is intelligence-setting related). Ironically, I was the ONLY player to vote against it. It was early game and I was in the middle of building my starfighter wave and misread the proposal -- I thought it was resetting the defense of the ships, which would be bad from a "puny invading ships" point of view.

No this is not specific to the beta. One game, transports were given +10 attack by the UP. For much of the early game, I was placing 1 mil Transports as the vanguard of my attack followed by frigates to clear orbital ships. The AI I was at war with was sending Corvettes in to attack and getting stoned every single time. The transports even took out a frigate during the offensive.

Everyone thought I was the most powerful military with my 40+ transports.

Note I was playing against genius AI.

I'm mad!
I was clearly winning at crippling (not really a common thing for me) and the game does not proceed when I press the TURN button. I can do everything I want, even with the clock on the turn button, but it does not proceed.
I tried changing settings, reloading, restarting the PC, all... no change.
Good news for Brad is that is not a transient effect but rock solid.
Please let me know what files you need from me and to which e-mail to recreate on your machine (don't remember where are all files of the game...).
In exchange ;) I want to be able to continue my game...
I'm on W2000 professional. No CTD, no error file... no mods.
-----------------------------------------------------
Also, at times the main window sticks to a part of the galaxy and cannot be moved in any way.
-----------------------------------------------------
Once I also got a ship launched from a planet with 0 movement points (was a frigate)

I have done this three times but haven't been able to replicate it every time.

Create a rally point (e.g. rally point 6)
Accidentally click the rally point arrow and come into
edit mode.
Leave edit mode without changing the name
Next turn
Create a new rally point and it will sometimes call it rally point 6 (or whatever the other rally point number was).

I have found, when this happens to me, that if you hit the 'Enter' key, the turn will proceed.

I'm not sure why it works, but it does.

This is not a bug, per se, but rather an unwanted feature.

Techno victory sucks, big time (not only metaverse-wise).

I wanted to get a tech victory on my last game, but to avoid being culturally overrun, I had to go to war (all the while tech being 50%). I kill the influential Arcaen empire. Now, I'd just want to get the techs finished, both Torians and Drengins were sucky-sucky at this point (I had Overlords, they had just gotten Dreadnaughts). The game goes into a crawl, because I don't want to build nothing, so I build constructors. Loads and loads of constructors. Tech victory takes ages.

The point: it is not fun.

Adding insult to injury, I could've gotten a much more profitable alliance (and even military conquest) victory far sooner, but I wanted to see the tech end movie! :ยด-( *sob*

So, I reverted to my previous autosave and allied myself with Drengin (only ones left at this point).

I thought that tech victory was supposed to be the hardest, not the most boring, type of victory.

Possible remedies; the tech path shouldn't take longer than Overlords to research, but should be on a have a "pacifist" arm, so that researching e.g. Overlords wouldn't take you automatically to tech victory. I.e. when going to tech victory, you wouldn't have the latest gear militarily.

Or something.

Sami, what I would suggest is for you to pour 100% into research and none into military/constructors. Hitting turn subsequently to reach FF is boring but not mind-boggling boring as managing dozens of constructors.
I did that... I even put away the notifications from my survey ships.

And it *was* boring. It shouldn't be.

Tech victory is supposed to be a valid path to victory. I probably won't pursue tech victory anymore. It is just not fun currently.

OTOH, you can get cultural victory very easily when aiming for e.g. military victory (or in this case, techno). I think the effects of culture would need to be tuned down a bit.

Last game, I hadn't built *any* influence improvements to my starbases, I specifically avoided influence improving buildings, and I gave away any influence trade goods (I was thinking any trade goods built affect positively to the score (? Am I wrong?)). Still I had a hard time keeping my influence in "acceptable" levels (so that the other races wouldn't flip). In the war I ended up destroying systems from my borders with my Terror Stars, so that there was a buffer zone between the AI and me :)

Opening a hyperlink for a tech which has a long description results in said description being cut short. This is esp. true for lategame techs. A scroll bar needs to be added, or other proper improvements.

In the ship interface pop up window under my alliance name the type of ship is hidden.

idontwantanickname: do you happen to have a save game that can reproduce it? Or can you tell me how to reproduce it?

gherardo: you can e-mail the save game to me at [email protected].  I'll need both the .sav file and the corresponding folder.

HercMighty: Which popup?

When you press the "i" key when a ship is selected. Here you can set orders for "sector sweep" etc..

At the top it has HercMighty Alliance and under this I can barely make out the tops of something written underneath it. Let me know if you can reproduce it if you can't is there a way to take a screenshot? I could then send that to you.

Harcon, that download problem has been fixed.  It was a bad file.  Thanks for pointing it out.
