Sorcerer King Beta 2.1 Patch Notes

Highlights

  • Reworked how remaining moves for units in an army are calculated (can now use remainders at the end of a turn, but they won’t trigger the “idle units” button)
  • Sovereign & Champion tree bug fixes
  • City Enchantments can now be cancelled
  • Red tiles hidden
  • WASD now works properly for map movement
  • MAJOR BALANCE CHANGE: the span of an attack's possible roll is now 90-100% of the max possible value (used to be 50-100%). Should make for damage more in line with expectations

Detailed Fixes

  • Guardian Sovereign tree: Fixed some messed up tree branching from Fertility and Revive Land
  • Guardian Sovereign tree: took building prereq off of Trebuchet
  • Guardian Sovereign tree: swapped Fertility and Revive Land abilities (so the Guardian can start healing shadowlands earlier in the game)
  • Peregan the Ranger now has particles for Lethal Shot, Freezing Shot, Hellfire Shot, Power Shot, Lightning Shot, and Explosive Arrow
  • Animations assigned to corresponding Peregan the Ranger abilities
  • Peregan the Ranger abilities Freezing Shot and Explosive Arrow now have enchantment particles
  • Ranger Hero tree: Fixed Quickfire to be required to get to Ranged Commander II
  • Gave 'Crushing Blow' ability a 2 turn cooldown
  • Dwarf Crushing Blow now plays animation
  • Fixed several text issues with the Tyrant tree
  • Re-fixed issue where Tyrant's 'Drain Shard' spell didn't talk about the doomsday counter being increased
  • Tyrant’s 'Drain Shard' can now only be cast on a shard in your territory
  • Warlord abilities Overwhelming Fear, Nightmare, Soul Rend, Deadly Favor, and Death Lash now play the appropriate animation
  • Proper enchantments applied to Deadly Favor and Death Lash
  • Urxen Poison Shot now has proper particles, including new poison hit particle
  • Arcane Spread no longer uses the unit’s damage (does 10 arcane + 1 per unit level)
  • Added "red tiles" mode (activated by running with command-line argument "redtiles")
  • Fixed several sovereign & hero tree display issues
  • Fixed strange issue with ability tooltips where they were using modifiers to create descriptions even if a description had been provided (resulting in weird line breaks, general ugliness).
  • Improved existing faction medallions
  • Added placeholder faction medallion for Pariden
  • Expanded description area above threat level meter
  • Sovereign skill tree window now displays sovereign’s name
  • Addressed issue where "turns until autosave" could be set to 0.
  • Fixed input lag when holding down WASD or an arrow key to move the map around. Also movement speed is now controlled via a game option "Manual Camera Pan Speed" (which is also what edge scroll now uses)
  • Fixed bug where drag-map code was not keeping the camera in bounds if you were in spell-casting mode
  • Camera is now kept in bounds when using edge-scrolling, WASD, or arrow keys to move the camera
  • Donkey Headbutt attack now plays
  • Made some goodie hut fixes
  • City HUDs now tinted to city owner's ZOC color, they have also been tweaked graphically
  • Minor faction cities should now use proper cloth map images and portrait images
  • Updated Imperial Remnant faction image
  • Implemented a way to cancel enchantments on both the City List and City Details windows (just click the 'x' near enchantment entry, and answer yes on the resulting dialog)

Red tiles are where the terrain would cause a massive slow down for users with certain video cards.  So we've been working to make sure we don't have such tiles by marking those tiles in red. In the latest update, we are replacing red tiles with a non-ideal looking tile (but less noticeable).  The next phase will be to have it check to see if it's an affect video card so that people with better video cards don't run into this.

Would it be helpful if people who have encountered the red tile to tell you what kind of video card they are using?

The game is great and looks like it will turn out great.

Having your hero creation not be full of +1% x and y is great. I like Master of Magic style hero creation much more than the +1% to 20 things style.

I like the art style a lot.

I like the idea of the crafting system and I am looking forward to see how it turns out. I hope it doesn't just mean every game turns out the same because I always just craft the stuff I like. That would be really bad.

I like the magic system a fair amount. (3 categories and you choose one)

Is there any penalty for making 20 settlers and covering with world with outposts? It doesn't really help me so it would be fine if the answer is no penalty but I am curious because lots of modern games penalize expansion.

Mike.

The red tile was purposely on for everyone so that they could see it. It didn't matter what video card they were on.

Re settlers and outposts.  Outposts consume logistics. So each outpost is like a soldier. better to have fewer, more powerful outposts.

Right, but I thought the red tiles were an indication that the video card someone was using couldn't handle the graphics. (or alternatively, someone with a high end card wouldn't see the red tiles because their card could handle the graphic requirements) So, I thought it might be helpful for you to know which specific low end cards were having issues.
