SUPPORT in Updating my version 1.5 of GalCiv2-DL & DA

Updating version 1.5 of GalCiv2-DL & DA

Dear Support:

I have tried to download each game through everything known and tried installing the current Stardockcentral_setup.exe version 9.0.4.0 but each time this message by the ‘InstallAware Wizard’ shows and/or states, “That it cannot start setup – the setup file maybe corrupt, or you may have the wrong password. If you downloaded the file, please download a fresh copy. If the file is password protected, check your password and try again.” After 7 days of trying everything known but turning off my AntiVirus protection, I am still unable to update these games.  XO

I registered my games years ago and able to see they are registered that GalCiv2 forum and GameStop forum. I install the games with my GalCiv2 Collectors Edition CDs along with a Dark Avatar Expansion CD that contain version 1.5 and version 2.0.0.0 of Stardock Central. I was only able to update 2.0.0.0 Stardock Central to version 2.38.434 build 139 that only allowed me to see the current versions that I am unable to update to like DA version 1.80xxx and so on because I can select and try to download with no results. :pout:

I try to install the current version 9.0.4.0 of Stardock Central but it keeps asking, “To insert Disk#2 that contains stardockcentral_setup.2”. Here is my problem out of the three CDs only the Dark Avatar Expansion CD has a file in the folder label Updates with only this file with the name sdcentral_setup.exe which containing version 2.0.0.0 Stardock Central that is dated January 11, 2007 and it is no help.

I have wasted many of hours trying several ways to update. I tried downloading the thru both Stardock Central and GameStop but run into the same message by InstallAware Wizard shown above. The only thing I have not tried and would rather eat supper with a Korx, who brought along a few Koraths that he sold me to as their main serving would be to turn-off my AntiVirus protection. Because I am referring to the message that the InstallAware Wizard keeps spitting out to me each time I have tried to download and install. InstallAware Wizard shows and/or states, “That it cannot start setup – the setup file maybe corrupt, or you may have the wrong password. If you downloaded the file, please download a fresh copy. If the file is password protected, check your password and try again.” I know I have the correct passwords.

The version of SDC on the discs is the original iteration which was discontinued several years ago, being replaced by Impulse (which is now owned by GameStop). There is a new SDC now that we no longer own Impulse, but it only supports the final bundled version of GC2.

If you're unable to update the game via the latest version GameStop's app and their support cannot resolve the problem, please contact [email protected] directly and they should be able to provide an alternative solution.

Hey Kryo,

I was just passing this on to you to let you know that I fix or worked around my problem and here is what I did. Sorry I did not tell you earlier but I played a few games before composing this reply.

After downloading then installing the program ‘Free Download Manager version 3.9.2 build 1294’, I was able to finally download the GameStopApp_setupfull.exe 19327kb file within a few minutes with no problems or anything trying to block it from installing on to my computer this time. Once it was install, I was able to update my GalCiv2 – Dread Lords v1.50 from my original compact discs to the current v1.53.136 being 1.36GB and after that update GalCiv2 – Dark Avatar v1.50 from my original compact disc to the current v2.01.107 being 1.43GB using my dial-up modem with a maximum speed of 49.2Kbps within 24hours more or less. Thanks again for your help.∞

Also just to let you know that BMonkey with GameStop support thought it was my operating system and recommended I run or perform a repair on Windows XP-Pro-SP3 and that could or might fix the problem. The strange thing is that before January 20, 2013, I had to reformat my hard drive then reinstall everything from scratch which was then inspected by a couple of computer experts that certified it clean & working great before I even began trying to update GalCiv2 version 1.50 games DL & DA. One of these experts is currently been nominated Technology Administrator of the Year by the TCEA. I am not to impress with GameStop Support system at this time.
