Altarian crash?

hey guys so ive played this game for a very long time (ultimate edition) and never really had any problems whatsoever... recently I decided to try playing as the Altarians (for their research bonuses) but for some reason whenever i start a new game as them... the game crashes right as its going to the load screen... heres the debug file

one more update... ive gotten it to work as long as i dont use altarian ship style... getting some random crashes though

I'm no good interpreting Debugg.err files, but often a clean out of your GC2 version folder in My documents/My Games will help. You want to back up the folder and then launch the game with a clean My games folder, just to see if it's something in there borking your game.

Not that this is pertinent, but your Sound Drivers are well out of date, and even your graphics driver may well need updating too, April 2011??

the only reason i would think it isnt the sound or video drivers (ive done my research and have seen that its a pretty common issue) is that ive played the game just fine for months and it doesnt crash when its booting up the game map or anything it crashes before the load screen... i dunno... is kryo still operating on these forums?

I agree, i certainly wasn't trying to say they were the root of your issue, just pointing out they may need updating, it's easy to forget.
And yes, Kryo is still active. If he doesn't drop by in a day or two, maybe pm him.

Have your tried reinstalling the game? A clean install is often the best fix for many errors.

Ya i did and it still didnt fix it, i mean ive gotten it to run by just using the terran ship style but im ocd and would like to be able to use the altarian style for my ships, also this is partly my fault, i checked most off the forum pages lhaha yes about one hundred of theml and couldnt fiind someone else else experiencing the same problem which makes me think it might have been covered in an update... sadly my serial number was probably thrown away when my mother got rid of our old desk so updating despite the fact that i bought this at fries isnt an option

You never registered the game with Stardock or on Impulse? If you did all you need is the email you registered to be able to update.

I trust you also deleted the Dark Avatar folder in My Games when you reinstalled?

i bought the original years ago, then picked up ultimate as a time saver... do i still need to delete the dark avatar folder in my games???

and sadly i never registered the game... to be brutally honest i never had any issues with the game and something about impulse drove me NUTS... can barely stand using it for my copy of sins

one last thing, there seems to be alot wrong with the altarians in my game in general... just realized they dont have concepts of righteousness in their tech tree after getting zeno ethics

Ok sorry, i should not have said Dark Avatar, thats what i play and i'm used to saying it. Sorry. Just back up any GC2 related folders in your my games folder, (there may be a save game u want or certain ships you have designed or something) and try and play altarians then. The game will create a clean folder in my games, but at least you can be certain there are no files in there borking anything up.

A bit scarce this week, dealing with a dying PC

Most generally a failure while loading in the AIs indicates that one of the custom race config files is corrupted. Clearing them out from My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor should do the trick.

thank you very much for all the help guys, i guess i never played any races other than  human before since im having trouble with the torians now too, when i get home from work im gon n a clear out all of my custom races, im remembering now that i only deleted one that i created and left a couple stock races which i had  modified in there, probably the cause and a stupid mistake by me haha, thanks again guys ill let you know how it goes
