Blank screen screensaver VS turning display off

I currently have my computer set to turn the display off after 2 minutes. I notice when I come back to use the computer the display is comes on but is not as bright as it should be for a few seconds. Am I hurting the display or should I use the blank screen screensaver?

The screen is an LCD display with LED providing the backlight.

I can't see how it could be hurting the screen. I'm my opinion screensavers were good back in the day when screen burn was a problem, This is something that hasn't be a problem for quite some time now. If i want to "save" my screen i turn it off.

Your display is probably fine. Putting it into standby is the better option (or just turning it off as Nimbin does), especially considering how much power monitors can use when they're on.

Turning it off it what it is set at - it's a notebook.

I prefer to just put my computer into sleep mode and also turn the monitor off when I leave to save electricity.  Screensavers are pretty, but do waste quite a bit of electricity or battery power (by keeping the monitor on).  I use no power management options because I almost always put my computer to sleep manually when I leave (except when streaming video).  Even when streaming video, I still turn the monitor off for energy saving as well as privacy reasons.

To each his own.  Do what you think is best for your system.

Mine is on during the daytime and I turn it off when I go to bed.

Frequent power cycling a CRT will shorten its life, so screensavers were handy to prevent burn-in.

LCDs don't suffer from either.  Mine gets turned off 2 or 3 times a year....otherwise it's set to 'blank' after 10 minutes.

When I am not using my computer, I turn the monitor off.
