Rush Build Company

I know that the game gives you a load of options to choose from when rush buying ships and improvements as well as upgrading them.

But I only used the Galactic Manufacturing Corp. option (the no repayment plan)

Does anyone else use the other options at all?

Very occasionally, but I don't usually consider it a good deal, the repayments can become economy-destroying in the early game and later on I usually have enough cash to buy outright. Sometimes when I need to rush a colony ship early on, to beat the Torians to a prime planet - then it's worth it.

There are instances where it may be most worthwhile to use the rush buy (no lease) option, but so long as one keeps an eye on income and expenses, the longest lease is a very attractive option, as it can allow you to expand your empire (and hence economy) at near-exponential levels.

It definitely takes some practice to get a feel for it, though, and in any game that you expect to be over 5 years it's probably not worthwhile as more than an opening strategy.

However, for ZYWs it's pretty much the only way to go.

Edit: There are also instances (Starport comes to mind) where the half to dozen week option is cheaper than buying outright.  Starport is 156bc outright, but 104+6*7=104+42=146 with the second option, from memory.  Granted, not many things are low enough build value for that to work, but there are some.

Ship upgrades sometimes fall into that low of a range, but not when things start getting expensive.

When an enemy civ acquired a ranger that was ridiculously stacked, I rush built 3 Large ships with tons of evil weapons on them using microsoft option in order to berserk through its defenses.  Silly me, I didn't realize the AI places such a low value on single ship I could have bought it from them for 100th the value of my 3 ships :(

When I'm doing late-game mass-upgrades of whole classes of warships, I always use the long-term lease option.  No way I'm going to take the corruption losses to save up 100K bc to warp-equip my battlefleets.

There should be an option to upgrade not all but as many ships as u can afford.

For ships it's always cheaper to use the first payment plan that has weekly repayments (so it's the second one down in the list)... at least, with the Terran race.  Go figure.

For planets... it seems that paying for the improvement outright is the better choice UNLESS you NEED a particular structure NOW, AND can't afford the total cost this turn.

EDIT:  Maybe the second option is always better with "cheap to build stuff" (as someone mentioned earlier in the thread regarding starports), and I've only noticed it on my ships (since I focus on many cheap ships).

EDIT 2: Yeah, if you're planning on winning the game before you'd have to repay the full lease, then the other repayment plans become more attractive.
