Is it worth using espionage against the Dread Lords?

I usually sink four spies into researching the Dread Lord civilisation, but I've been wondering what benefit I get for it.  I can't see their Civ on the stats screen so I don't get any of the useful information I do when I use espionage against other races.  And I never seem to steal any of their technology.

I guess at level 4 espionage I get to look at their planets in detail, but other than that, is there any point?

Usually, it is wiser to use the spies on something else besides the Dread Lords.

You will not gain to much out of the Dread Lords.

  I used spies in the DL campaign to sabotage.  The Dread Lords didn't do much after I had a spy on every factory,  and they seem unable to nullify them.

Using race-wide agents on the Dread Lords doesn't do much good. You should get to at least "low" intelligence on them so you can track their ships, but beyond that it doesn't do much.

However, as Zarnick says, using spies to sabotage them is a whole lot more effective. They never nullify them, and enough spies hammering a DL world makes it take forever for them to build a ship. I would definitely recommend it if you have the agents to spare.
