heh... doggu. The difference between you and me was that I only thought of that wisecrack.
Had some god awful games with Karl last night. 1 game we just got worked (completely idiotic team comp because we got an olaf that wanted to jungle so we lost our amumu). Karl was solid at least, but the rest of the team... not so much. The last game we were up like 17 kills or something and managed to lose because folks had no interest in watching the map and defending. In hindsight, I should have just gone back to assist and ignored everyone that should have went back (but did not). Instead I'm just pinging asking the right folks to head back. Smeh. In the future, I'm just going to go back on defense even if I'm the carry or a tank - you never know what type of players you are going to get in a pug. Sigh... just needed 1 person with half a brain to consider going back to base. Also that last game started getting some weird lag that made things very difficult towards the end - pacov = suspicious, but oh well.
I knew DOTA and it's clones were popular but I thought people would be put off by the communitys horrible attitude and teamplay in general.
Some people are put off by the community. That said, there are tools within game that can mitigate crappy attitudes (eg you can always easily mute someone). To be fair, though, even in my pugs, I end up with like 1 guy that is annoying once every 10 games or so. And even then, its just some 13 year old idiot, so I really don't care (and could just mute if I wanted to). I play whatever role well enough at this point where I'm never really insulted by my team, so the only hazing might come from an idiot on my team directed at someone else or someone on the other team being a douche. In either case, I just report them at the end of the game and trust that the person will eventually get their account banned if they keep it up.
Am I the only one who doesn't like teamgames?
Nope. I personally get more satisfaction anymore from playing in some sort of team game instead of SP (though I still love SP games) - even if team game just means co-op, etc. The best part about playing in team games, though , is when you get to play with your pals. That's the nice thing about lol for me - a huge chunk of the Demigod community moved over to LoL after quitting Demigod, so I get to meet up with folks I used to play with, etc. Nice to have some continuity from game to game.
Pacov - the man with the game(obsession? ). What is it you like so much about League of Legends?
Oh, I don't super like League of Legends. I spend quite a bit of time playing it and its growing on me, but I'm not a huge fan of the meta game. I do like the diversity of characters. I do love that it gets constant support and there is no real end in sight for that support (this is a HUGE bonus to me). I do like that I earn points for every game I play (win or lose) that I can use to unlock new characters or runes. I do like that it takes a bit to get to level 30 so that you have plenty of experience by the time you are ready to play ranked games. I do like that 99% of every game I've played has begun within 2 minutes of me queuing up for a game. I like the connectivity scheme as well - if you crash or disconnect for whatever reason, you can reconnect to the game. I love the meta game and characters in demigod much more, but LoL has everything else that I could want even if I like the meta less in it.
Is DOTA II an obvious upgrade for you?
No idea, tbh. I might hate it utterly. The thing with Dota 2, if I understand it correctly, is that its really just Dota 1 updated with current gen graphics/connectivity, etc. This means that if you are a pro at Dota 1, then logically you are pretty great at dota 2. The downside to this is that there will be folks with years and years of experience when the game comes out. Obviously that experience is a huge leg up compared to newcomers. Anyway, its definitely something I will at least try.
I've been running Kog and can almost make up for an entire team of feeders with long range artillery shots to keep them from converting.
I was just thinking about trying out Kog as well in Dom. I think he could be quite useful as well.
