Basic Question About Game Setup...

Hi, Everyone...

I am trying to play my first game of GCII and have arranged a basic game w/ few custom settings.

However, I am wondering: is there a way to revisit the game settings (such as opposition profiles, AI levels; special abilities selections, etc.) once the game has commenced?  It seems that once one initiates game play one cannot (at least) review what went on before in this way.  (I note that in the game main menu there is no option to review/adjust these game parameters.)  It just seems odd that the game would not allow an easy way to check these central game choices.

Thanks so much for any ideas,     H.

I don't know if I'd ever try to change setup options after I got a game going, but it sure would be nice to be able to see the setup info somehow, perhaps via a Details button on the Load dialog box.

Something like that could be helpful for folks learning the game and for those of us who might put down a game for a long time and forget what we'd started with.

p.s. I'm certain there's no 'UI kosher' way to change the setup choices of a given game, and nearly certain that there's no way to view them after a game is underway.

GW...

Wow, Thanks for the fast reply...

I am completely in accord w/ everything you say--this is a large omission in programming, imo.

There is a multitude (well,  thoroughly thorough throughout:borg: ) of information in the tabs at the bottom of the screen:

Foreign relations tab: the "stats" sub-tab contains more tabs for data on each race,  such as "now researching",  "number of colonies",  "weapons bonus", "intelligence level" and

Civilization manager: "stats and graphs" has sub-tabs and comparisons with other races and all the data on your own race.

If you mean how to start a new game with the same settings,  I find they are still there when you quit a game then go into the galaxy setup again.  Maybe somewhere there is a "restart" option,  like in the campaign scenarios?

You are quite right about that (and I apologize for not responding right when you did). |-)

I'd still like to see that setup info accessible via file the Save/Load UI.

Reverse engineering it is OK sometimes, but not when you've decided to get back in to an older saved game after you've tried a few different setups for recent games.
