I know there's not a lot of people who still regularly post on these forums, but I decided to go ahead and start an all-purpose thread to discuss one of my personal favorite aspects of this game: the random events (by which I mean mega events and their "ordinary" relatives, not the ethical random events).

Feel free to post your favorite and least favorite random events, experiences you've had with them, whatever.

  Yes I've had 1 or 2 such slogs,  but now at "crippling" difficulty it's usually another colony rush (plus a new tech and ready-built planet) with most of the major races also declaring war against them.  Korath with their spore ships are able to snatch those planets easily.

I had them show up the other day, immense galaxy, everything set to Rare, and they showed up while the game was still in the first few months (I think I had turns set to slow). I had 4 planets including the 2 in the home system, and hadn't yet made first contact with any other race or gotten even 3 sectors from the home system. The JK suddenly showed up, took only 3 planets in the entire galaxy, but 2 were mine. Restart, because I didn't have invasion or even weapons yet and didn't feel like trying to deal with the bastards.
