how to edit blueprints without starting from scrach?

is it posable to edit the bluprints of one of your ship deisngs with out needing to start over? when i clik on upgrade from the shipyard menu, i need to rebuld my ship. for example, i want to ad 1 armor to a current design, but the way i am seeing it, the only way to do it to start over. i click on the update buten, and i get a hull with no atachments. what am i doing wrong?

There's an option in the settings to specify whether functional components are removed or not when upgrading designs--just toggle that and it should do the trick.

Open the Options screen.

Click the Interface tab. You should see a 'Ship Designer' heading under that. Uncheck Remove Functional Components When Upgrading a Ship Design. All done.
