this makes no sense

video driver too old?!?

so i buy the galactic civilization 2 ultimate edition. i take it out of the box, i install it, i pause to reflect on how wonderful this is going to be, then i proceed to hit the "play the game" button. and what greets my expectant little eyes?

a box appears on my monitor which says,"your video drivers may be too old to run galactic civilizations 2. installed video drivers must support microsoft direct x 9.0c, which means you must have a driver from at least2005 installed."

which would be acceptable if i were running some kind of dell dinosaur from the turn of the century, but i purchased my brand new bad-ass pc in late 2010, so im not understanding what the problem is. i run windows 7, i have the newest direct x and driver updates and what not. i had read on a blog someone said they had to get a windows vista dll file and put it somewhere. while being computer literate, i dont feel comfortable playing around with dll files. i learned he hard way that thats how you turn your magic box into a brick. if that is the solution than i find that unfair and unacceptable and would like a refund. why should i have to pay for the game and then modify bits of code or do any kind of work period to play?

its cool how when someone has a random crash, or crappy graphics you guys are all over it. but when someone has a problem with something that cant be shown on a debug screen it dosent matter. i cant even get a response from someone sayin "sorry for you luck". stardock techsupport isnt much help either, no response, no solutions, no ideas, just nothing.

Your debug.err file should confirm it, but this is generally caused by an issue in DirectX where it's failing to report the correct info to the game (generally, none at all). Support should be able to help sort through that if so.

If you have emailed support and did not get an auto-response issuing a ticket number, then most likely the message was spam filtered coming or going. You can also post tickets directly through the support site if need be, or visit chat during business hours.
