Planet Naming

I scanned the first 5 pages of the forums and didn't see anything on what people like name their planets, so I thought I drop a thread on it.

smaller pq's I would just use their given name.  But most of the names on larger worlds I like their name to be descriptive of what I use them for, like for my research planets being named akin to Memory Alpha, Beta ect.

I like to name my primary ship production planets Forge World XXX, where the Xs could be any short name to tell them apart.

as for trade planets I like to name them after merchant ship names like Trader's Paradise or The Four Winds.

Anyone else have fun naming their worlds too?

When I first started playing, I would rename all habital planets after women.

It was just easier to think of numerous names that way, and fit rather well.  It also had the added bonus of adding incentive to protecting the planet and keeping the population happy.  Don't want "Melissa" mad at me.

I'm sure there was a little discussion about naming, but I don't remember where ;)

Anyway, I try to name planets like: RES XXX, PRO XXX, ECO XXX (XXX - original name of the planet), and when planet is filled with buildings I add "F" (finished) at the end like: ECO XXX F.

Why like that?

You can easily sort and group planets with the same role, and quicly see what is going on in the specific group of planets.

When I have over 30 planets (sometimes 50, sometimes 80+) my system is helping me a lot.

I rename only those planets that have significant ship bonuses.  That is, if a planet has a 52% warship bonus, I rename it "52% Ship."

I stopped renaming others, such as Manufacturing Capital, since simple sorts would list the planets by production, should I care for that.  The ship bonus cannot be deduced from the spreadsheet screen.
