Can a race start on an extreme planet?

I'm guessing the answer to this one is no, but I'm asking anyway.

Is it possible to mod custom star systems so that one or more of the planets has an extreme environment?  I vaguely recall this was shot down once before, but it's been a while and I couldn't find the topic.

Thanks!

Well, I think it's technically possible in that the game probably would not crash were one to be placed there. However, there is no way to actually include one in a custom planet's XML code. There is no known way to make one appear on there (although it might work using an entire custom map).

I actually just found this:

If you read the posts, it seems like it is possible to put an extreme planet (or several) in a race's home system. However, it apparently isn't possible to use one for a race's homeworld.

How do you come up with this stuff?  Thanks for the link!

Shame about the homeworlds, but this is good news overall.

So I tested this and it's pretty much like you said.  Interesting thing is, if you designate a homeworld as extreme, it will override the extreme tag, but still uses the extreme planet texture.  I guess it sets the system up, then overrides the extreme tag when placing the homeworld.

Not quite it, but at least you can get it to look right.
