Will this game get a multiplayer addon?

Hey, sorry for being noobish: Is there an addon planned for introducing MP later on? I read something along those lines in the FAQ. I cant really be bothered reading all replies to that MAMMOTH sticky up there, it got like WTF many pages ;)

I just bought elemental yesterday, and they have a MP beta, which is really cool. So I was wondering if the same thing will happen to gal civ2. Cause the screenshots look really reall moo like, and I loved moo.

thanx for the headsup.

Doubtful.

It's been discused quite a bit but the game takes way too many hours to play and is way too complicated to ever be a good MP game.

There has also been talk that an eventual GalCiv3 might support MP but when that would be is anyone's guess.

There used to be a way to play a quasi hotseat game as described in https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Hot_Seat_Game.

Used to be? Does that mean it doesn't work any more?

Whatever worked before, will work now.

Nah, I dont wanna mess around with cheats, but thanks for the info.

What a shame really. Oh, and about being to big/complex for MP: Go tell that to the Moo2 and Civilization makers *G*  I just loved playing those games with my friends. We still play Age of Wonders from time to time, but its so worn out... ;) I ve been searching for that kind of game for ages, then I found "Space Empires 5". The MP mode is so cumbersome and unhandy that I regret having bought it...

Well, maybe one day a dev will hear the call ;)

cheers

If you haven't yet, you could also check Sword of the Stars. It's another sci-fi 4x TBS. I believe the devs even said they had designed it with MP in mind, streamlining it somewhat for that purpose. It's available on Impulse as well.

This is true and a game that should be in every gamer who loves the genres collection.  Absolutely great multiplayer and single player as well.  AI Wars was also designed for co-op multiplay from the ground up and is a load of fun!!

I never tried it myself which is why I qualified my response so I can't vouch for whether or not it used to work let alone still does, however there are many things that *used* to work one way that no longer do and so it's not *necessarily* true that whatever worked before will work now.

I personally don't think GalCiv2 would work well with the current mechanic as a multiplayer game.  In order for it to be a multiplayer game, turns would need to be simultaneous, which would require reworking unit movement in some fashion.  I wouldn't want it handled the same way Civ5 is handled where unit movement is processed by whoever clicks the fastest.  The best example I can give as far how simultaneous movement should work would be Conquest of the New World.  Turns were completed simultaneously and then orders were processed depending on the unit order.  I think attacks were processed first, and then movement.  So units given "attack orders" would have their moves executed before "movement orders".  Now GalCiv2 is a single player game, and you knew that going into it.  But I do have hopes that GalCiv3 will be multiplayer and work in a fashion that makes sense in a multiplayer turned-based game.

Really the only way I would enjoy MP in a 4x game would be play by email, that would allow the time required to have a good game.
