Slow ship movement between turns

My biggest gripe with this game at the moment is how the player's ships slowly move one by one while they are on screen. I know that this can be circumvented by zooming in on an empty part of the map, but I am hoping that there is a more convenient option, such as having all ships move instantly or having all ships move at the same time. I already searched for such an option and found posts from two years ago saying that there is no such option, but I am hoping that in two years of patches such an option has sprung up.

If there is no such option I humbly ask that one be added in a patch; I really hate having to zoom in to an empty part of the map and stare at it whenever I want to end my turn.

Nope. You already know the one and only option.

I see... well my request still stands. It doesn't seem as though it would be too much work to at least add a slider or a variable in the pref.ini to change ship movement speed between turns, but I could be wrong.

Aaargh, I wish I knew this on Friday night.

All of a sudden it was 2 o'clock in the morning, and "just one more turn" from winning.  Of course each turn took ages, and then all of a sudden is was 4 o'clock.

Good thing the baby didn't start crying until 5, so at least got one hour sleep  o_O

Zoom out at the end of each turn so that the galaxy is shown in tactical mode (all objects are displayed as icons) - easier when you can use a mouse wheel to do it (the zoom level for tactical map mode can be adjusted in the settings).  Ships move faster and 1-to-1 ship battles are over more quickly.  I play zoomed out nearly all the time with games which have many ships - it slows down ridiculously over some areas of ships [EDIT - and much more for some races' ships than others].

I have returned to playing GalCivII with megaevents on,  and my game doesn't freeze so often when I exit (don't use the escape button to open the menus).  The only problem is zooming while moving the cursor;  this causes a scroll to the corner of the galaxy map which can last for several minutes.

Also,  you can spot resources more easily.  Zooming with the cursor over the mini-map will zoom the mini-map.

Zooming with a mouse wheel can also be done on the tech tree in the research screen,  and on message boxes (such as starbase upgrades) without having to aim the cursor on a side scroll-bar.
