Newly installed Win7(32bits)

DL & DA can't load!

After losing a whole 500gigs drive, i had to restart from a brand new one.

So, i figured might as well pickup a copy of Win7 and go on from there.

Lotsa of files were lost and i have yet to try recuperating a few "important" things from the blasted HD... but that didn't stop me from putting the essentials (SeaMonkey_Browser, AVG_Free, Gimp, a few games, etc) into the new OS.

Problem is, when i went to re-install all three GC2 from a fresh Impulse setup(btw)... downloads seemed  to work perfectly but DL & DA crashed at the start_game_loading phase (if that can help, the Hints popup was empty and Win7 game me the following boot warning;

Danger Will Robinson, no Stars! ??? (Maybe?)

DL also game me a line such as "Collectors Edition" in its own Debug file -- might not be *it* though...

Finally, as you could read, i have the latest NVidia driver (197.13) installed too. Although, i know for a fact that anything above 165+ versions have been experiencing numerous troubles from what i've seen on their Forums.

Ooopppss, forgot to mention this important fact; strangely, TA loads and plays fine!

Try this (or this one if you have 64-bit windows). Save the file and run it, agreeing to merge when prompted.

Well, i'll be darned... that worked flawlessly!

Going from my default "Frenchy_Québecky_OS" to a properly managed registry entry in (essential!) English really was a strange solution if you ask me! Besides, the normal stock game_fonts were *also* fixed while this reg file merging process did its (or yours, in fact!) magic.

As usual, many thanks for your kind & swift response and help, Kryo.

Now, i can go back to that silly blown drive and try recuperating some of the latest ships & fleets already made for X-Worlds #09-C which were "almost" lost. Kinda puzzling, since i normally make emergency backups of such stuff and probably felt too comfortable with *THAT* Vista over the last few months. That'll teach me to be a bit more carefull with precious data, although Win-7 looks pretty solid and quite easy to work with -- so far.

Thanks again, sir! B)

Mobo goes Kaboom, Kaput, Black Holed to Hell!

Yep, even more "problems"... the relatively old Acer Tower blewup the NVidia board. It was to be expected since the default PS only gave out 300W altogether. I have so many devices connected to this, i *WAS* asking for troubles eventually.

So, i figured i might as well put in a new PS too and found a pretty good ThermalTake rated at 600W+.

Then, came along the hard choice of a compatible (but slightly better & new board) core circuit for this PC. Ya know, changing the whole 'puter is another balls & whistles game too. After some tricky acrobatics with the front panel wiring connections (thanks to an expert friend in such installation processes!) and having to cope with two USB hosting slots instead of three. I wasted the front 14-1 card readers (for now) and managed to boot the Bios only to realize the Win7 OS had to be reconfigured too. Makes sense, new board. Better to reset the essential drivers & PNP structure.

The MTX775, chipsets (i certainly didn't want to dump a good Core2-Duo CPU, just for kicks!) on that Intel DG31PR device squeezed perfectly in the space allowed and (cross fingers) it looks like i'm off to the races... again. Got a much better fan for it too while i had the chance.

Sadly, i'm gonna have to re_install all the GCII & DesktopX Pro stuff.

But that's okay, prices were great (79 for the Mobo, 75 for the PS... CND, fair & square) & knowing how well Stardock & Impulse D/L threats me as a client... it'll only be a matter of patience.

Lucky me, the 9600GT & the brand new 500GIG Seagate/Barracuda sata HD weren't damaged by the Mobo blowout adventure.

See ya!
