I think that boot skin is not safe

xp boot screen can be changed in 2 ways

by modifying ntoskrnl.exe and by boot.bmp file in no gui boot or a kernek switch in boot.ini

but bootskin uses neither of these ways so how does it work does it change a regisrty key not possible

It's safe...provided the BIOS works wiith it correctly.  If the BIOS is not compatible it's still 'safe' as such as it can be removed.

i would say it is "safe"

however, changing the boot screen that way is a pretty good "hack"

that makes it look a little shady - lol

it has advantages over altering the kernel file, though

bootskin xp is old issue but i dont recommend anyone to download bootskin vista because it modifes system file in system32

And who are you to state this?

It's a bit cheeky coming on to the website of the software owner and telling people not to download their programs.

It's my right to inform people here that's why we have forums.

Bootskin vista takes ownership of the file in system32 solfer and modifies it and modifies it's 2 image reosources for different image resolutions.

But if you want to change boot screen in all vista cersion with softwre there is no other way out. sadly . But i will be back soon after my researches and i promise i will create a freeware which will do this task easily.

@fuzzy logic i am sorry but i need to tell the truth . And yes now i dont consider Logon studio to be bad because it is the only way to change login screen with custom large file size images because windows has a restriction of files to less than 256 kb.

Stardock software infact does not change any system files. None of SD's software ever has, nor can I envision SD producing Software that would.

Stardock is a Certified Microsoft Gold Partner simply because it does not alter anything in the system files.

In a prior thread, you met with some critique. I don't see your approach to this site and the software it supports (among other worthy products) has changed.

If it dosnt alters the file then there is no way to change login screen . How does it changes

Oh i see now you may have wriiten your own credential provider right ?

My approach has changed bt i am now now exhausted trying to modify one file since past 8 months. I tried  everything

And i dont want to go with regedit trick . (By that i hae already published logon screen changer http://download.cnet.com/Logon-Screen-Changer/3000-2105_4-75218509.html?tag=mncol;lst ).

I want to find an alternative method like writing own gina or microsoft credential provider.

EDIt now i also administrate idealprogrammer.com and idealprogrammer.tv

So if you dont know ihvae changed but i really love tweaking and if some task is not completed i try again and again and i mus say i will some day find a solution

in my life.

I thought these stardock people might give me a hint but they didnt

saurabhvyas ... I don't see much mileage to be had by/with Stardock assisting a third-party Indie developer in creating an alternative to what they [Stardock] provide quite capably themselves.

It's a bit like KFC releasing the secret herbs and spices recipe to Johny's chicks-R-us emporium...;)

okay dont help but i will try to use the new credential provider method.

by the way jafo you are doing a pretty good job here at the stardock.
