ImpulseTV launches

I don’t know about you but before I even think about buying a game or other piece of software I want know as much as I can about it.

I’ll start with screenshots and if possibly, watch a video on YouTube or Game Trailers and if the program or game is expensive (i.e. >$20) I’ll likely want a demo if I’m still not sure.

The problem I run into is that it’s hit or miss. Sometimes I can’t find a video at all. Othertimes it’s a “trailer” which doesn’t really show me what the game is really like. Sometimes a video is made by a player but it’s 15 minutes long and I just don’t have that kind of attention span.

So what the Impulse team decided to do is have two seasoned industry veterans (Jason Ocampo and Brian Clair) sit down and show off some of the games and apps that are on Impulse in short (i.e. 3 minutes or so) segments so people could see what they’re like. Nothing fancy.

Their focus is on games and programs that they particularly like even if the game is barely known. For example, while Star Trek Online is on there, so is Kitten Sanctuary.

If you don’t have Impulse, you can download it at http://www.impulsedriven.com.

It is very nice, but it does require Flash Player 10 which is not compatiable with WC Library uploads at present.  ID did mention in IRC that next month that should be taken care of. :sun:

Oh, games and apps will be reviewed, that is nice.

Sorta like little Impfomercials.  :-"

if it expands quickly and features a couple more high name games, and I see that you have both dragon age and mass effect 2 videos reserved space, it should draw in more users.

This is great. I'm always leary of those game trailers that like to show you pretty cinematics without any gameplay. And those YT vids of someone playing without any commentary of the whats and whys usually leave a lot to be desired when trying to get a grip on how the game plays/flows.

Brian and Jason have a lot more experience with games than most people, too, which makes it interesting to hear what they have to say.

While I must say that ImpulseTV is indeed awesome, I would like to see both the good and the bad of a game highlighted. That way, people don't buy a game and realize, "Oh, great! I just wasted money on a game/app that's too x for my liking." (Replace x with the adjective of your choice, such as unfinished, short, or difficult.) Because, to be honest, I felt that the game reviews really tried to make each game look as fun as possible, albeit they never went out of their way to do so, thus making me want to at least look into the game's demo, if it has one.

Just my humble opinion on the matter. ;)

Should be MUCH better to correct the glitches wich are still in Impulse (ex: Showing DesktopX 4 Pro as installed when user never bought it)  :-"

Cool, I was thinking of buying Kitten Sanctuary for my wife, but I'm not sure if she'll like it.  I'll check out the bit on it.

oh man, kitten sanctuary!   Is that game top selling yet?

I scored some major brownie points with my wife by putting Kitten Sanctuary on her PC.  She simply loves that game.  Best 10 bucks I've spent in a long time.

Kitten Sanctuary: Best game of the decade.

I watched the Star Trek On Line video. Very nice! This is a nice feature for Impulse.
