Dread Lords Event Crashes Game

Every single time I get the dread lords event (Twilight) the game crashes.

Game also crashes if I alt tab out of any game reasonably in progress (techinically crashes when I try to alt tab back to the game), which is pretty damned annoying considering I have a beefy PC that far exceeds the reqs of GalCiv and none of the other many games or apps I own have this problem.
